Depends how much you value the picture quality or if you'd even notice.
You get what you pay fro as usual.
If your not into the best possible quality a cheap one woudl do you fine.

Sony are good for picture, for looks when it is switched off the samsung is a good unit.
All depends on buget.
Ideally you want HDTV.

if your interested in propper movie watching and a flat screen/wall mounted etc then go for plasma (plenty of replies by me on why and what screens to go for etc etc), otherwise if you dont really care for picture quality and want flat screen then an LCD.
If you want HDTV, then just make sure a digital connection is on the screen (DVI/HDMI) and that the res. is higher than 1024x768!
Otherwise if space isnt an issue, then go for a CRT tv - offers the best picture going, but HD CRTs are serious money and only support 720p (from what i remember).
My recommends -
Plasma - Panasonic or Pioneer are about the only ones worth looking at!
LCD - Samsung & Sony (had a look at a few recently, they look pretty good)
CRT - Sonys (only thing i can say sony do brilliantly)

Still don't agree with this buy a plasma if you want quality.
I'd choose lcd any day.
Best to go and have a look at them in person tbh.

LCDs are light, so it isnt much of a problem to wall mount, just get the correct wall mounting bracket and its just screw into wall (give or take a few hrs swearing etc  ).
John - Yet to see any proof that LCDs are superior to plasmas (there getting close from what i have seen), if they were then plasmas would disappear, instead of being the choice for movie go'ers and home cinema installs 
There impressive though, look good from what i have seen but plasmas still offer the better picture!

my parents have a plasma now, its nice like, but i think LCD is way better... my mate has LCD Skysports 1... its really good !

jodi - cant beat a crt, just a shame they dont come in 2" depth boxes and you can hang them above the fireplace

Im assuming its pretty easy mate. Just make sure you get the right one!
Theres A LOT of info on that range of TVs HERE but will take you HOURS to read. I reccomend reading from page 60ish onwards

could if you mounted it in the wall, it makes me laugh with all this modern tech shit, something invented over 50 years ago is still the best method.

jodi, its only a matter of years that they will get something that is not only smaller, but will offer the same quality or better than CRT. Generally colours, constrast, brightness etc is better/on par on plasma/lcd screens, its just anti-aliasing that is one of the problems - though i give it a year or two and they will have it probably cracked, i mean its pretty bloody good now...just not perfect.

If you bought a 4k lcd it would be amazing as well.
The only thing plasmas have going for them is the contrast ratios.
I've not seen them personally but the expensive loewes are supposed to be something else.

we both agree then john, blacks are greys on lcds lol
i will say, i am impressed with LCDs but i know, CURRENTLY, that a plasma is still the better format to watch a decent film on - saying that though, sony/samsung/viewsonic all have screens that are 1000:1+ constrast ratios and i doubt it will be long that they have LCDs capable of plasma 3000:1 ratios etc
