my HP 2002 version of XP professional SP2 does not recognise my cd key anymore!???
ok basically this is what happend...
my hp comp was full of crap/viruses and dead slow so i was advised to reinstall my windows, so i did and i had to activate the windows with the serial key which all went fine, but as all was seeming fine other day as i was re-installing all my programs and games it crashed hard (blue screen fatal error) anyway i was advised that the hard drive was corrupted/damaged beyond repair!....
so anyway the situation now is.. i bought a new harddrive and reinstalled my windows xp sp2 pro 2002, but now it says my cd key has been used already!!!!
i have 30 day grace period to activate my windows with a new/valid cd key!!
what can i do???
how can i re-activate my windows???

thats strange, are you connected to the net when your inputting the cd key.
e.g is it going through the "register this copy of windows" online thing ?

yes it connects to the server and goes through fine, and comes up with the message "this cd key has reached its limit etc"
how much would a new cd key cost? i really dont want to buy a new cd key, i mean i bought this windows legit with the computer, but just using it on a new hardrive because my old hdd is damaged!
anyway i can get cd key fixed or a new one from microsoft etc??

Ring Microsoft on the free phone number shown when asked to activate. I had to do this once when I updated my bios firmware. They just asked my current key and some other questions (can't remember as it was about 3 years ago) and they gave a code to put in the key field.

i think whats happend is, when i re-installed it the first time the other day and activated it, it used up the cd key, but then when that harddrive went pop and i got a new one and tried to use the same key it said its already used!
yes i think the best thing to do is to call them, you think they will understand my situation though and re-activate my windows??

yes they should do, I only updated my bios and it asked to reactivate. It would not accept my previously used key. It said to ring Microsoft. All sorted in 10 mins. I think they even have 24/7 support for this. Give them a ring.

It was free, they just wanted to check it was the original key and person using it etc.. I'd honestly just ring them. They'll inform you if there is/not a charge.

doesnt matter whats on the harddrive as when he connected to the internet to register the copy of windows it is recorded as already having been registered to something else.
there are programs to get around it but theres no point when u can just ring up realy as you have a legit copy.

microsoft are shitting on the end user end of...
WGA also got ALOT of criticism, and still does...
Ring them again and say you want a new CD Key, explain again about the situation, and say if it is NOT resolved, you will go to trading standards, as you are being refused access to software you LEGALLY bought.
