HELP
having problems with my fueling now, its one thing after another! its been with the mapper for a day, and he cant get the fueling right. either too rich at idle or to lean higher up. yesterday he said he had it spot on, live mapping on the rollers, but the ecu didnt save any of his live changes so wasted an afternoons work.
also, at idle now the revs wander from 1100 down to about 600 and back up again, and stinks of fuel.
he is saying that it could be a faulty injector, faulty ecu or faulty wiring between the 2.
could it be something like fuel pressure being wrong, as i dont know what it is set at currently.
im well and truly out of my depth, and getting fed up with this car, so and help (that is useful, not the usual ICV/CTS crap!) would be greatly appreciated
thanks

take it your not using a standard FPR?
fuel pump not on it's way out? if it's fluctuating, mine did that for a bit.
dont know much at all about TB's

Rob, not being funny but the people mapping it, have they got a clue what they are doing? blaming the ecu for not storing the map is also bollock. I know the ecu that you are using and the first thing you do is to save a map to disk or hard drive before sending the calibration to the ecu. then you send it, open the hard copy of the cal with the ecu disconnected and then compare it with the one that is stored in the ecu. its very hard infact to just 'lose' a calibration. It tells you that the calibration has changed as you make the changes and also saves as you go.
first think I do when setting up throttle bodies or writing a map is to check fuel pressure. Without knowing what fuel pressure and what injectors im using everything else is a guess!
the rich at Idle and lean at top end is likely to be a mapping problem, its unlikely that the injectors are not up to the job at high revs. (i take it you are using xe injectors)
the lumpy idle is likely to either be mapping or throttle balance. is there a pattern to the way the revs drop and rise?
then again, all of the above is irrelevant until the fuel pressure is checked.

yes, the guy knows what he's doing. he's not saying the ecu has 'lost' the map as such. it has definately changed in the last week. when i first got it back last week it was spot on, couldnt fault it. but since then i've fitted the alternator, and put maybe £10worth of tesco fuel in as ididnt have enough to make it to shell. i went straight upto hell after and put a further £30 of v power in though. after that the idle has gone weird, fluctuating back and forth, at random. sometimes it doesnt do it. others it does it all the time
tbh i dont think he has checked the fuel pressure, as i cant find a way of checking it without fitting an extra fuel line off the FSE thingy. my fuel rail has no pressure valve etc, and its this that i think is casuing the problems
i am thinking of taking it elsewhere to see if i can get it sorted, but there is nowhere local to me really.
first off i need to find the fuel pressure then?

what TPS are you using?
the Jenvey/SBD or even Vauxhall ones are shit.

jenvey tps is fine, dont last long tho. if it was tps then he would know straight away whilst its being mapped. as for checking the fuel pressure, just take the fuel pipe off the return end of the fuel rail and stick another, shorter piece on. then plumb in a gauge.
or even easier, buy my valve that I got from sbd with the gauge on it. only used twice for setting up tb's.

jenvey tps, man you can buy those from maplin for about £2! you need to get a rover tps, its much better, jenvey ones tend to jump about!
sounds like the FPR may be messing about... agree with dave tho, need to check the pressure.

the rover place near PTS in luton
or a rover garage, they should still have a parts dept...
Cam cover? the top bit which covers the pullies, or the metal bit?

the bit that goes under the bit that covers the cam pulleys. plastic cover thingy.

does that guage stay on all the time then? or do i use it to set the pressure and then swap it for the return fuel line? looks the same as mine apart from the gauge.
how much is it?

you can keep the gauge there all the time or blank that port off with a bolt.
I would set the fuel pressure to 2 or 3 bar and then adjust the injector duration to suit on the map. and then fit a fixed webber one. £45 posted rob.
cost me £25 for the gauge.

yes, mine is blanked off like that. i cant get to the other side with where i've put it though, so i guess i'd have to set it and then swap all the hoses around? i'll see what the bank suggests tomorrow

see what you mean about the position.
is yours the type you get with the sbd kit? if so its likely to be that, they are known for their shiteness.
you can tell by looking at it, if its skinny at the base (looks like it) compared to the one in my pics then that might be to blame.
at leats with this one you know it works as you have the gauge and its hardly been used.

what colour are the wires? do they look /work the same as jenvey ones as some I have tried give diffferent signals to the ecu, I.e at WOT on a jenvey one I am at load site 100 on the map
with a different tps it might only be at load site 70 if you get what I mean.
