Okay, so I finally took it on myself to remove the pre- 97 strips due to em looking ugly!
things were going well and they came off a breeze including the majority of the sticky black stuff.
now comes the crappy bit. I was left with loadsa nasty glue, and the dryer + credit card just isnt touching it.
My fingers are stinging like hell, I've done 1 door so far (3 doors togo)
anyone know any advice that can help with this laborious task

pull the strips off and use a stripe removal tool (aka a carmel /toffee wheel) there only £6-7 and save a lot of hard work

bearing in mind if you use these too fast it can fuck up your paint work
best to just get stuck in there and do a bit of hard work, i just picked and picked at mine when i did the badges, i take it theres a lot more with rubstrips though

you didnt warn me, anywho I dont really mind about the fade lines! Im a adict when it comes to cleaning and t-cuting so give it a few t-cuts and im sure it'll blend it, and besides the pre 97 strips look ugly anyway!

There easy to use keep the drill at 3-4k rpm and dont keep it in one place for to long other wise it may burn the paint/lacquer.
It took me 15 mins to remove 4 rubstrips a bit of G5 and polish to finish it off so about an hour in total
