my corsa b is a 1.2 8v and was made in 1995. it has done 97000 miles. it seems to only get to a top speed of ninety with foot down to the floor on the motorway.
Is this about average or is this slow??
any ideas why it only reaches this top speed if it is indeed slow??

shouldn't go above 70 on the motorway 
my 1.2 16v has had 115 out of it but that was probably the max i could ever get out.
that was of course on my private test track
i'd say no more than 100 from a 1.2 8v

top speed for a 1.2 8v is 90, i never got more than that from mine, it was bloody scary at that as well

Sounds normal. Though you get the top speed in 1.2 8v's in 4th gear not 5th if your car has a 5 speed gearbox as 5th is an overdrive gear for fuel economy.

ive had a death defying 96 out of my 1.0 12v and the windscreen wipers didnt like it much either!

sounds about right to be honest, my 1.4 16v has only ever hit 125 on m6 with me in but that was due to the slingshot down the on ramp giving it the extra ump, on a straight wont go past 117 now.. try the on ramp ooomph.. super fast super fast.

Got just over 90mph out of my 12v, on a private test track. Should perhaps try it in 4th next time, although I vowed never to do it again, was horrible.

115 in a 1.0 12v . I have only had about 125 out of my 1.6 and thats with lexmaul, manifold, fliter etc.

since changing the oil, oil filter, air filter and spark plugs my 12v seems to be perfectly happy doing that kind of speed in 5th, before it sounded like bits were gonna start flying off by the time i hit 85

My 1.2 16v gets to 95 pretty easy... I seem to creap up there all the time these days :S. 90 for a 8v seems right,I couldnt get much faster out of my mates

ive had an indicated 125mph out the saxo, fukkin hated it though, Speed scares me, only cause I dont want to get banned though, id love a go on a REAL private track

115 from a 1.0 12v? sounds like bull shit to me, mine does 90 ish max and 80 if you got the windows down, dont get there fast eitha but are faster than an 8v

I gotta unmodifed 1.0L 12V engine in my 98 Corsa and got it up to 93mph before I ran outta road. Doubt I'd get anymore than that outta it anyways.
