always wondered this, maybe because the effect of lower/ stiffer suspension increasing the twisting effect on the shell when cornering, whereas on standard stuff theres alot more body roll so less stress in the shell?

Sure i was told its something to do with the weight of the roof, not being supported well by the B pillars.

My current Corsa has a SR. No problems.
My old Corsa didn't have one. No problems.
Both were lowered and both were driven hard.

its due to the stress of the seat belt mountain points i beleive later cars have strengthening plates fitted in the b post
also are poeple aware this is an MOT fail

I was told it was because for a small car the doors are quite big and when they get slammed it puts too much stress on the B pillar

i was told its coz rainwater sits in the bit where the crack is and rots the metal
both my corsas had cracks in, one lowered, one not.
a mate welded his up again but it only lasted a few weeks

Extreme amounts of torque and power cause it, especially in the 8v SPI range

the shell flexes when driving at speed causing the cracks. the b pillars are simply not strong enough pre 97.

my first corsa had cracked and rusty b-pillars and it was a 1993 1.2 LS, and it was not lowered and had never been lowered in its life! all my other corsas including my current one which is an M reg SRi 16V, are lowered and have no B pillar cracks at all

There is NO real fix forB pillar cracks. No matter how well you weld them up a month later there back. Ive had mine done time and time aqgain. Forget it and just buy a shell with no cracks and hope they dont crack any time soon.

vauxhall do a repair plate that welds on the inside of the b pillar, do this first before doing the outside and this will stop it spliting, it was a recall on the early corsas if you did not know this hope this helps out and its to do with the weight of the roof and the flex of the whole car ..
