The operation failed error was rife on the k800's when opening the games or applications folder. Funnily enough it was caused in one case by the 3 network puting on their network, the wrong firmware update. It was easily fixed using a firmware flash from the Wotan Server but cost my m8 a couple of quid. He did however debrand the phone at the same time which was nice.

I used the Master Reset option and it got rid of it. It clears all the messages, contacts etc but it's all backed up with PC Suite so I just restored it.

read my post, go to here:

buy a credit and download the software needed to update your phone. Use your credit login details and start the firmware flash. Select the correct firmware for your phone/network and you can get it changed to a generic firmaware. Debranded etc.. Have a look on some of the phone forums such as what mobile for a guide.
PS make sure you back up your phone and sim contacts first.

had the same problem with my K800i, had the handset replace after a week old.
6months later the new handset is doing the same, its been back to t-mobile, had a software upgrade. Came back still doing it so its going back again tomorrow.
Ive pretty much been promised another handset over the phone by T-Mobile.

Thanks Allan ill try that, I already tried using the sony ericsson firmware update service from their website but it didnt work for me. I had a browse on the web and apparently i've damaged the java system or something by downloading a dodgy game.

Danny it is Java related but is fixable for the price of a credit. Or send it back under warranty etc... I had it on mine and a mates through a crap game installed and a dodgy firmware update from 3
