OK, when I get my flat, I think I will trade in my PS2 slimline and Gameboy advance for one fo the above (+ cash obv lol)
Want one for good games, mostly to play on my own, maybe online but i cba really with all that, not bothered about the blu ray/hd-dvd thingy although i will have a hd ready 32" sony tv by then most liekly
So, pros and cons of both?
Mostly into sports, driving and GTA type games
Price not a huge issue but dont wanna pay thru the nose

Look at the game range, the Xbox is the winner.
Esp as your not fussed about blu ray.
Its the obvious choice!

xbox is just like a computer which cant be upgraded, i owned an xbox then sold it, PS3 wont have games fully capable of the system for a good few months. imo i would go for the ps3 now over the xbox.

an xbox shares no components you can get in a desktop pc
the cpu is a custom made 3 core chip by IBM and the graphics is also custom made for the 360 by ATI, so really its not more like a PC then a ps3
The only thing it shares in common with a PC is it uses directx which is easier to develop for hence why games makers favour writing for the 360

I have both, and the PS3 will win the battle.
The XBOX has been out 2 years, it's bound to have better games. Give it 3 months Robbo and the PS3 will be the better deal. Don't forget it costs £50 more but has less associated costs* such as online play for Xbox costing £40 per year.
*Steve, a HDMI cable doesn't cost £30......
I'm loving the PS3. It's quiter, nicer looking, doesn't break
For the record my Xbox is dead, the second time THIS year its died. Neither were preventable.
PS3 FTW IMO

360 game lineup is superior to the PS3s atm imo.
If you dont care about Blu-ray then save yourself some cash and get a 360

yes like live doesnt cos £40, which hes already said hes not fussed about
face it the ps3 is too late, by the time its overtaken the 360 in gaming terms there will be something else out

its understandable that your defending it so much nath, as you've just spent a lot of money on one and need to justify it, reality is, the games are no better, the line up at the moment is pretty poor, its only advantage is blu ray and if you dont want hd media, then the 360 is a much cheaper alternative that at the moment offers better games. Aswell as live being better that barnes has already admitted
whether you'l admit it though, or just keep spouting 'PS3 FTW', or guessing how everything is going to pan out is a different matter

yes, i would be put off by that too.
for the same price as a ps3 you can get an elite, which as far as iv read is reliable, supposedly it has the new cooler chip, but if it doesnt if definatly has revised coolers which so far seem to be doing the job.
also bear in mind you get a 3 year warranty, and if you bought it from tescos they will give you a 12 month instant swap warranty

i feel sick that i agree with Steve here
I own a 360, but dont feel any loyalty towards it, if the PS3 had something to offer me that i was interested in that my 360 couldnt, i would buy one.
Graphics are the same, capabilities are the same, thing that separates them is the games, of which the 360 has a better offering.
At the moment,

The new 40Gb one won't play any PS2 games, the 60Gb version will play pretty much all of them.

everyone is saying xbox has a better line up at the moment and truth behold it does but when the ps3 gets some cracking games on the go are you then going to fork out more money for the ps3 or are you just going to sit and wait on the next gen console
if i was you and im not being biased in anyway but i would get a ps3 mainly because its time is yet to come and you may regret it if you get an xbox

As above. As an example, Sony say that Gran Turismo 4 will play with 'serious playback issues'. I got a copy off muppet and been playing it loads, minor glitches, but nothing major. I think unless you have some really obscure PS2 games they'll be fine.
I've not played a 360, so won't try and compare them, but I love my PS3. I'm used to Sony products so everything is familiar, it looks pretty good, runs very quietly and has just replaced my DVD player. I reckon soon I'll be moving over to blu-ray just because its convienient.
What put me off trying a 360 was the MAHOOSIVE failure rates. Even if they do offer a warranty, I can't be bothered sending it away, I want to just play it, not have to ring about arranging collection or taking it back to the shop. Also don't want to have to pay to use it online.
Just my 2p
