Its the size of the built in storage...the higher the number, the more it has.

Can buy the 60gb from selected places online but its twice the price if not more than the 40gb.
Pros of a 60gb, apart from the extra storage is the PS2 play back capability and 2 additional USB ports.

40gb is massive, if you do find it fills up you can add a larger hard drive.

The 60gb was the original PS3. Everyone complained of the price (£425) so they took bits out and released a new version (40gb).
The 40gb has the following changes...
20gb Less HDD Space
No SACD (Super Audio CD) Playback
2-less USB Ports
No PS/PS2 Game Playback
Matte silver finish front (60gb is chrome)
Less powerful CPU (although no-one has noticed a difference in performance)
The 60gb console doesn't have DS3 (DualShock 3) controllers, nor does the 40gb (at the moment). They're being released when Metal Gear Solid 4 is released (in its own bundle). You can however order DS3 controllers from abroad (and have been able to for months).
The HDD is used to store game data, game saves, profiles, and (optionally) pictures, music and videos (etc). It'd be very hard to fill up 40gb, but it is possible. If you manage to fill up 40gb then there's a big chance you'll equally fill up 60gb. You can change the HDD very easily to 250gb, which can be bought for under a ton.
I've owned two 60gb's and one 40gb PS3.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

You'll only hear about it from the ultra-geeks. It really won't make a difference.

All i can see about the processor is that the 40gb one uses the 65nm fabbed chip, nothing about it being slower?

Why are they selling a 60gb dual shock package in the uk when you can't get either of them here currently?

Slower processor? Are you sure about that mate, or do you mean the fact that one is bigger then the other?

Go on AVForums and do a search. Several people have said it has a slower processor (very minimal, but still slower) -- it could all be rumours but far too many respected members are claiming it.
