I'm giving this a go, I will chart my progress.
Frist was looking at the insanelymac forums, got bored after seeing a massive post on what needs done.
Picked up a couple of things to go on from my quick skim.
Used a local friendly shop to purchase a copy of leopard that I hoped would boot straight from cd and not require any fannying about.
Has booted from cd and i'm currently in the process of installing, I think.

Messed about with the disk utility thing built into the installer and formatted it again and pressed buttons, now seems to have gotten further and started the instal process.

Install it on my inspiron, you don't think i'd go out and pay 10x the price of an equivalently slow pc to try it out do you.

You'll never get a virus though. Probably because it wont install

I got rid of my windows partition and installed again and now it won't boot for some other reason, beginning to wish i'd never started but i'll persevere.
It's probably not crashed because it only has to work on one set of hardware and nobody writes any software for it.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing it doesn't crash but people don't realise that windows doesn't crash much if at all, it's normally a badly written program, in most cases an nvidia driver according to some stats ms posted, thats the cause.
I can put up with the very odd crash for the sake of not spending well over what its worth.
Especially since I can pay less and install mac anyway if I want (if i ever get it working )

Which copy have you got?
Think the Jas 10.5.2 is the best at the moment.

The difference is that Mac doesnt have programmes running in the background compared to windows. Thats why it doesnt crash as often.

I feel like I'm standing in Selfridges or the Apple Store being spouted a load of crap from somone who knows a lot less about computers than myself, or, and Apple Genius as they like to all themselves.

Sounds like somebody has been told they're cool.
The disk utility has now also lost my partition with my data on it, great, lucky it wasn't much.
