Given today's current financial climate, what do you lot think is the best paying IT job to have at the moment (i.e. web design, software development, PC repair, whatever)?

Out of those you listed, software development.
Business Analysis and Project Management probably pay better though.

Lots of people going for hosting and co-location so I'd say some of the high end network analysts are raking it in at the moment.
Not as much money to be had in software development these days as everyone and their dog wants to be a .Net programmer and most companies want to move to the .Net framework for development.

Yeah every fucker does software or web development these days (including me ) been thinking of keeping my web design business as a sideline and pursuing another avenue in IT. I've done technical support and networking before, I do fancy getting back into network engineer work but wasn't sure if it still paid fairly well and if there were actually any jobs in this field so I thought I'd see what other good paying jobs there were out there before making my mind up.

I'm just talking about the sort of people who know TCP/IP like an intimate sexual partner and can configure a router to give you a hand job.

And whats peoples definition of well paid?? I'd say £30-40k is good money for IT, £40-50k is well paid and £60k+ is very well paid.

Its the Tax though, it sucks.. Once you hit the 40% tax bracket anything on top is just a bit depressing once it hits your bank!

There are a lot of people in IT on less than £30k.
I always tend to find that most salary surveys suggest IT salaries are higher then they actually are.

I think the industry/location is more important than the discipline
The more niche you are, the more you'll be compensated. EMC/HDS specialists, columnar databases (KDB+ etc), blah, blah, blah.

my title says im Senior support technician but it really means general dogsbody
getting a pretty good wage out of it too
we are just moving into .NET Frameworks for our software.. im getting less and less involved in the actual development side but a lot more on the testing of the product.
also sales, customer service and even man the 2nd line calls too
we are a specialist software company for the freight industry and are very sort after so will always be a roll for me there.

What does being a computer engineer at Renault involve?
With respect, a salary of £16k suggests a skillset that isn't revolutionary.
