Well seeing ive sold my house and am about to come into a sizeable bit of released cash ive decided to max out my premium bonds holding for 3 draws.
If I stick the money in at the end of August then it has to stay in for 1 month before it qualifies, so thats £30k being entered into October, November and December draws.
Any guess as to what you think i'll get back??? Apparently the odd's for max investment suggest i'll get at avg 2 prizes a month.
I'll think i'll get £50 total for my trouble. Im just doing it out of interest really but how cool if I won a Million!!
Anyway I thought there might be some interest in following this to see what happens.

Odds : The odds of winning are shown below. We calculate the number of prizes in each draw by dividing the total number of eligible Bond units by the odds.
For April 2009 36,000 : 1

100% safe and backed by HM Treasury.
You invest whatever you want and get one chance at a prize for eack pound you put in. So i'll get 30,000 pops at winning a month. I should win something, maybe just £50 though!!
Then when you want the cash back you give 8 days notice and its returned to your account, every penny

Worth I go I suppose, but if you get more than £100 you'll be bloody lucky!

Absolutelly will be luck if I get anything tbh. Theres circa 27 billion Bond numbers in circulation all with the same chance & i'll have 30,000 of them for 3 months.
More fun than having it sat in a bank account gaining 0.5% interest

You joke about buying a car and selling it in a few months but is there any cars in your budget that are going up in value? Risky tho I guess, not like you are talking a couple of hundred quid

If you'd of put it in an account earning only 4% for the next 3 months you'd of earnt £500.

Sods law would say the numbers would come up should I redeem them! they were all purchased for me so its not 1k out of my own pocket. Way I'm justifying them being there anyway

That would be grand if there was such an account offering 4% which you dont have to leave it in over 12 months, there isnt any

Some Nigerian banks are offering 12% interest
Have a look at this http://www.ibtc.com/portal/site/nigeria/menuitem.2792be962d90f70440ff36313367804c/?vgnextoid=3d7f423fbdae8110VgnVCM100000337608c4RCRD
Off-shore banking seems apt seeing as you are an off shore worker

Me neither
I'd just blow it on a fast car. Wouldn't the sensible option be to pay off your new mortgage with it as it would save you £30k in interest?
