Might be useful for someone thinking of taking a contract out.

Data doesn't seem right at 1gb? I don't know if that is a lot or not but usually it is unlimited?

So what happened to all the amazing deals there would be on Vodaphone.

Phone cost is virtually the same once again.

Only big difference I can see if unlimited texts but a specific 1GB limit on data compared with O2s fair use unlimited data.

That's a bit of a bugger.

So i'm guessing i'll have to take out a new contract instead of an upgrade

you get more for your tariff money than on O2 without a doubt, as these are just std tariffs for us i think... no idea about the cost fo the handset though

O2 have/will be changing the data thing o n theirs though

They haven't done anything yet and won't be able to change existing contracts either due to it being such a major part of the contract. They don't want people walking away from contracts only a few months in with subsidised contracts

they could change fair use to 1GB as 1GB can still be construed as fair usage

I would say putting in a hard limit would be a major change in contract for a device such as the iphone and I am sure would get many people challenging them.
Its happened before with people putting limits on previously 'unlimited' tarrifs and they have been allowed to break the contract. They may change new contracts but IMO won't change the old ones

As for the 'unlimited' data on other networks - not quite. Most, if not all, networks offer 'unlimited' with a Fair Usage Policy - which IIRC is less than 1GB.

Orange capped it at 750MB, O2 is unlimited with fair usage (said to be 750MB) but Im certain I saw stuff saying O2 were going to formally introduce a cap

Doesn't seem as "special" as Voda was claiming, you get unlimited texts but a capped data (O2 tried to cap it a few years back but it caused a load of uproar so i can't see them doing it again for a while) and the phones a few more quid.
The capping is a bit shite tbh (along with Orange), yes there is apparently a soft-cap on O2 but there's plenty of people that hammer it (jailbroken tethering etc) and never had issues. Plus you can easily rank up a fair amount if stream a lot from spotify/TVcatchup/youtube etc.

Got anything top back up the claim that iphone's unlimited data crashes their network?

Another expected let down tbh, not much different from o2 as expected, vodafone saying they've taken a year to upgrade their network for it is a load of bullshit, I seem to remember a certain Mr Bubblevaux saying vodafone didn't want, or need, the iphone.

if you do some searchign yuoll see that apple were the ones who refused to budge on the prices... but the tariffs are better iirc

Those outages were caused by IP allocation faults (hardware failure) and only effected data for iPhone tariffs, no connection was made that their network was getting hammered or their 'Unlimited' data caused the issue.

And being petty, didn't Voda have a complete network outage last month?

Yeah you're right, it was a "small" outtage where there backups/fail safe systems borked during an outage
