Sky is good but to get all the channels it soon becomes very expensive. If you value a fast internet connection and have access to cable there can be no argument. I have Sky (with slow ADSL, and like you dont use the landline, only have it for internet), if cable was available I would be all over it in a heartbeat

Virgin is upto 10Mb but being cable you'll receive atleast 90% of that, where a with ADSL it depends on how far away you are from your nearest exchange center. There's a link on the BT website that tells you the fastest your line can achieve. I'll find it when I go on the laptop.
Being a new customer to sky you might get some sort of discount for 6 or 12 months, espcially as you're taking out all 3 packages and near full TV. Likewis with Virgin, if you're leaving to goto Sky they'll give you a discount to make you stay.

problems with sky is if you have bad weather it can affect your reception, and like somebody has said above, sky say up to however much mb, but, you will rarely ever acheive anywhere near it whereas virgin is almost always what they say due to using cable

Yes you get more channels but the majority are shite or reruns, not really worth god knows however much a month it is now. I know for my package (Basic Sky+ + Music, phone line, up to 8mb broadband) £40. All we really watch that much is anything you can get on Freeview anyway

The only thing I'd have Virgin over Sky for is the internet. You get more channels on Sky (albeit some are the Asian channels etc) but the reason I prefer the Sky tv is the fact the box doesn't freeze every 3 days and isn't pig slow to use. Shell's maw has the V+ package and just received a brand new Virgin box the other month, and that is fucking shocking. Takes ages to respond to commands.

You should get FreeSat then.

We got Sky for the package as we moved into new house and needed a phone line and they were only £25 to install a phone line, and worked out cheaper over 12 months. We will be leaving at the end of the contract anyway

Sky is expensive but worth it if you use it.
I pay £60 a month for all the channels apart from sports, internet and phone. Total waste when i spend 3 hrs at home in the evening.
Getting shut of mine next month when i'm at my new place.

Im havinbg the same dilema.
Cant get Virgin as no optic cable up here.
Sky want £118 to install everything I need & will be £40 a month.
BT can offer free installation on everything, plus a BT-Vision box which has Music & film on demand.
TBH the only thing I want sky for is the discovery channel in HD & their much superior selection of music channels over everyone else.
Not sure how id like using music on demand, I usually just like to have it rattling away in the back ground & im not sure you can do that with this. Im still to find a decent write up on BT Vision.
Its still in debate, or at least until Sky start offering free HD box & installation!!

Sky offer free HD box and installation about 360 days of the year.
What's about 10meg internet running at 10meg?
