Right, as the title said I am fitting my lowering kit tomorrow. Wondering if anyone has any little tips on how to do things, anything that could help ease the job.
Also, was thinking about how the lowering affects the camber and such like, is it an easy job to fix the camber and toe in and all that?? Would I be looking at much cost to get a garage to set it up for me??

ok, please explain are you :
fitting just lowering springs on your std shocks
fitting lowering springs onto uprated shortened shocks (ie full suspension kit)
are you fitting coilovers?
And how much will you be lowered by?
just a tip before you answer, get your tracking done as soon as its fitted.
Youll need a good breaker bar and some big sockets roughly 19mm iirc.
Balljoint splitter
WD40
Grease for the springs + top mounts
two 13mm iirc round head spanners.
Ill explain how to fit , depending on the type of kit your intending to put on the car.

Me and my m8 fitted mine on sat, takes an hour tops! Just make sure u use spring tensioners to take the springs off the shocks or u may kill ur self!
U need to have the allignment checked after it has all settled down, I still havnt had mine done yet as the garage me m8 works at couldnt get the clamp over the wheels as it was to low!! so i will have to take it 2 a specialist garage, as for the camber it cant be adjusted unless u buy a special kit or file down the holes.
U will be well pleased with it I am!!

U dont need a ball joint splitter but u deff need a spring compressor!!!
DO NOT try to do this without them as u will prob hurt ur self very badly!!
U could always take them 2 a garage and ask them 2 take them off 4 ya

Yeah but how do I get back. Benn told £40 for fitting the kit and tracking and all that, is that a good price, do I need to pay that or should I save £40 and do it myself??

if u dont have spring compressors - dont attempt to do the fronts
If the garage is local - or u have a mate to drive ya - take the strut off the car urself, get the garage to swap over the springs, and refit urself
if u do it this way, u will need
Front
2 x 17mm sockets/spanners (bottom of front strut
13mm socket (top of front strut)
front strut will be easily removed once they are loose - no need to split any ball joints or anything
If u have spring compressors, compress the spring once the shock is removed from the car so its loose, and then undo the main nut on the top (this will be very hard to undo, easy with an air socket gun)
Rear
18mm socket (bottom of rear shocker)
jack up rear (not using axel, under car body) take out the bottom of rear strut bolt, get someone to push down on the rear drum, this will uncompress the spring enuff to free it from the car
as haynes says
refit in reverse of taking apart
easy job to do

why do u need ball joint splitters??
u use them for removing the front hub when u change wheel bearings.
spring compressors are bout 25 quid, for the sake of 15 quid pay for it. did mine myself and took me ages to undo the top mounts cos they were done up so tight and i didnt really have the right tools for the job.
btw, wat do people use to undo the top mounts? i used one of my neighbours box spanners but it was sh1t

My mate got hit in the face by a compressed spring when the compressor gave way. It broke his nose and jaw. Lucky for him it didnt hit his face head on.

If you dont use one, you better write your will now. If those things hit you in the chest, stomach or head, you are a dead man.

I was going to post a new thread, but
Is there an EASY way to undo the main nut without an air socket gun?
God, I feel so dirty digging up an old thread

Easiest way I found is to loosen it whilst its on the car, obv dont take the thing off altogether, just undo it so its not stuck on. Is much easier to remove when its off the car then.
Also, don't forget your compressors

Yes, I KNOW ABOUT THE COMPRESSORS
So its the bolt with the big washer around it and the locking nut yeah? Just give it a few turns before I remove it from the car?

Try and loosen it whilst the car is sitting on its wheels, sometimes the rubber will grip. But when tightening up always use a wizz from a gun...
