Not me my sister

She decided to put a password on and now she bloody forgot it. Shes the only one with an account on it, so can't even use the thing at all

Is there anyway to get in without having to re-install the OS?

What exactly will that do?

Password recovery is pretty tedious, but it's possible. http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=windows+vista+password+recovery

^^^This.

Also if it's a main manufacturer PC (Dell, HP, etc.) there will be another admin account on there.

Do you not need to have another account though to put the CD in?
The blocked account is the only account on the laptop so would it work without being logged in?

Its an ACER laptop.

There is an admin account, but its the ONLY account on the laptop. There is no other accounts.

Therefore no one can use the laptop.

When you boot up the machine, you quickly get a list of F Numbers, (i.e. F2-Setup,F4 blah, etc), try look for the one that says set up. I've found its Delete (Del) button, then look for the option, Start in Safe Mode.

Try that and tell us how you get on.

No, the CD is bootable. Either change the boot order in BIOS so that it looks at the CD drive first or hit F11 just after BIOS to chose the boot device (most BIOS will accept this but not all).

My old HP laptop had a 'hidden' admin account (hp_admin) that you couldn't see. Just wondered if yours had a similar one.

Like John says use a ophcrack or ntpasswd CD to reset the password.

Make sure you create yourself an admin account when you're back in

I was rambling on about the wrong thing. I was going of what my sister told me the silly cunt.

It doesn't even get to the log on screen!

As soon as I turn on the system it says 'Enter HDD user password'. It doesn't even let me into the BIOS to change anything ffs.

Sill bitch. Any suggestions?

Dell used to be able to generate the passwords for some of them, didn't work very often though.

If she can't remember the password there is no other way I know of getting the data back, I think you can format it if you hook it up as a slave in another computer.

Looks like she'll be down money this week then

I've never bought a new hard drive before, does it come with the OS already installed or do I need to install that to it my self?
