how are all these people on youtube rercording their gameplay from their PS3? are they all connecting DVD recorders to their PS3's? is there any software for the PS3 which lets you record your gameplay onto its own internal hard drive?

If you want to record your gameplay in HD you'll need one of them, if you dont care that much about quality just get something like a Dazzle capture card, cheap as chips, but you get what you pay for

I used to have a Dazzle Platnium, but only allowed me to play in SD (HD to SD was a massive difference for me) so I took it back. You can buy HD capture cards but obviously they'll cost a bit more.

I bought a HD PVR, but because they have no HDMI input, you cannot play in full HD. They require a PS3 Component cable which uses 720, but caused bad ghosting on my LG LCD TV.

A Dazzle will be fine to use, that's what all these youtube kids have. Start around £30 second hand on ebay.

The output quality of it was quite decent, but I couldn't play in SD. Actually playing the game was a nightmare cause I could hardly see shit lmao. Might depend on the TV, i dno?

Whats the deal with the Black Magic intensity? It just looks like a card, with no external casing?

I may be wrong here so feel free to correct..
When I looked into this it turned out there wasnt a solution to record using HDMI as it uses encryption and requires some sort of digital "handshake" for any content to be shown.
With regards to dazzles.. they may be cheap but you need to play in the same format that you're recording in.. which happens to be standard definition for the dazzles.
Most of the decent guys on youtube will use the Hauppauge HD PVR which uses component.. I'm sure you can get 1080i over component? So that would be your best bet..

The black magic intensity pro doesn't work with the PS3 without a HDCP stripper.

HDCP is the encryption I spoke about before..
Apparently you need an HDCP stripper that sits inline with the black magic and the PS3 to remove any encryption on the signals.
I don't think they're very readily available though or cheap.

Just had a read up on them, bollocks tbh... Seems like I'll have to give it a miss, i can't stand playing through a component cable, the picture quality is unplayable after being used to 1080i

Ach I play on 720p just now and I dont mind it. I'm not sure if it depends on the size of the TV or not. I think I'll pick up a Hauppauge at some point to give it a blast.

Are you getting mixed up between component and composite.
Although not as good as hdmi, component shouldn't be unplayable.
