Built my first ever pc, went well no issues there, loaded windows 7 on (64bit)
everythings ok, but I cant play any games online. It just wont find any servers for black ops / mw2 / hawx 2 etc. doesnt matter which game. Have I missed something or done something wrong? disabled firewall and deleted anti virus software to see if it was them but nope.
Computer goes on line and downloads etc fine just can play any online games which was the full reason of building it.

You probably have to "open" whatever ports the games use on your router.

Wont be port forwarding because you are trying to access a server, not a server trying to access YOU.
Can you play the games in single player mode OK? Have you got all the latest patches for the games? This is normally needed to play online. (i.e. same version as the game server)

I dont get it, I cant find any settings that should be stopping it

You're not running anything like peerblock or peerguardian are you? That usually stops me seeing servers in COD

Enable UPnP in your router options

Install cod on another system to make sure it's yours that is up the creek, likewise (if you can) connect straight to the modem and bypass the router entirely, will rule out if the router is blocking it.
Is this with all multiplayer games? Guessing other protocols (IM, Torrents etc) run ok? Who's your ISP by the way?

Working yet, no? did you reboot your rooter after enabling UPnP? usually it tells you to do that in the game if you cant find servers, did you not notice?

Windows firewall disabled or not? go into it and see what it is allowing, or not, as the case may be.

Do you have another firewall running?
disable anti virus and firewalls and then try.

Shouldn't really need any other firewall other than the default windows firewall. If you want more control then i recommend 'Window 7 Firewall Control'.
Can you connect straight to your modem via ethernet? I'd do that to rule out your router being the issue.
Perhaps your firewall you had installed left something that is blocking the connections, might be worth making sure all of it has been removed (maybe run something like CClearner etc).
Also check your HOSTS file to make sure nothing is getting blocked as well.
Other than that i'm all out of ideas, sorry (might be worth doing a fresh install, update drivers and only install a few games and see how you get on).
edit - try setting up a static ip on your pc and set your pc (with static ip) to DMZ in the router options. Similar to what willay said, it shouldn't make any difference but worth a try.

Going back to my original idea about ports, I see on the portforward.com site it lists the following ports for Call of Duty - Black Ops:
TCP: 3074, 27014-27050
UDP: 3074, 3478-4380, 27000-27030
(source: PortForward.com - Port Forwarding Guides listed by Application)
Also, instructions for sorting this out depending on your router:
PortForward.com - Port Forwarding Guides for Call of Duty - Black Ops
Give that a try and see what happens. Don't forget you might have to open the ports up in whatever firewall is in use on your computer.
Hope this helps!
