I'd quite like to get into playing computer games again, at the moment I have a Nintendo Wii which is good but obviously not the best in terms of gameplay/graphics etc.
I don't know whether to build myself a decent spec PC, or shell out a few hundred quid for an Xbox 360 or PS3. What's best in your opinion and why?
I'm into shoot-em-up and role playing games if that helps?
You can tell I am a newbie at playing games can't you?
Help me, fine people of Corsa Sport!

Being into FPS and RPGs, I'd say ya best bet is to build a decent spec PC to play them on.

The thing is with pc's is that the games get better and better and younwill have to keep buying better parts for your pc, thus means spending alot more moneys
Get an xbox though more people play xbox and it has a better community

Whatever most of your friends have, really not much difference between Xbox and PS3. Can't speak for PC however.

It's not even a few hundred for an xbox. Slim's are just over £100 with wireless pad. You can add any old 2.5" SATA you've got lying around for HDD space.

That seems quite cheap Brett?
Are they lacking in certain features or are they just generally that cheap now?
I used to have an "original" Xbox which I thought was pretty good at the time (i.e. 5 years ago ).

Well, that's for an arcade one. So only 4GB space, matt black case and no HD cables.
The HDD is upgraded with any 2.5 sata as said. I prefer the matt case. HD cables are a couple of quid on ebay. Job done.
It'll still have built in wifi, etc. It's silent compared to first gen too.

only get a pc if you are going to be dedicated to maintaining its spec and general housework on it.
id get a console imo, and id plumb for the superior xbox 360 especially as it has the superior driving sim available

I gave up on PC's. Sick of upgrading every time a new game comes out. Nothing like just buying a game knowing it'll work straight up on your console.

You can get the 250gb slim for around £150-160 new now too, think Tesco were doing it for this price.

Does the HDD need to be formatted in some way beforehand?

I'd say Xbox. I've got an xbox 360 & ps3. I own no games for the ps3, I bought it for GT5, then kinda forgot about it, handy as a blu ray player though
Don't really go on games anymore, but xbox is by far the best imo.

I go through phases with mine. Never really dabble between the two. Also seem to play one for ages.
