As above really. Getting a new TV and not sure whether to get an LCD or Plasma?
Whats the difference between the 2?
Is there a 'better' one to get out of the 2?

Depends on the spec of the tv tbh.
I find Plasma vastly overrated and can have screen burn. However the faster images are smoother on the plasma but again that's model spec dependant.

without trying to sound like a dick - go to richer sounds or somewhere they'll set them up with proper feeds, look at them, decide yourself.
Personally i think my gfs bros plasma has deeper colours than my lcd, but i think my lcd is great still, and i think plasmas in general have higher ratios, but it's offset by refresh rates or something? Proper nerds will be along shortly.
Lots of related links at the bottom in the mean time though!

i prefer my plasma to my parents' LCD but it chucks out a lot of heat, which, in a small room will make it very hot very quickly.

As Jambo said it depends on the TV's you're comparing and it boils down to opinions.
Personally Plasma is the better choice as they usually produce better blacks and i prefer the colours. But as said they are also heavier, use more power (they are a lot better than a few years back) and produce more heat. Screen burn isn't really any issue now as most Plasma's have 'technology', pixel shift etc, to deal with it (not saying it doesn't happen, but it's usually in extreme cases).
Saying that LCDs are certainly getting better although one of my gripes i have is the evenness of backlighting. Depending on the TV, it can be quite noticeable on a very dark picture to see blacklight bleeding, stripping, 'hot/cold' spots etc - eg:

as already advised its down to personal preference but overall i prefer an LCD and the image it produces, even better LED. you can pick up a 32" LED now for about 300 quid i believe in Currys

I have a 50" LG Plasma and a 42" LG LCD. Both are 1080p I find with the plasma the colour contrast has to be quite low otherwise bright colours, oranges etc tend to blur. The only thing the plasma is better at is the fast motion. Other than that the LCD is better.

Id say the colours ar "warmer" and more golden on my dads Vierra Plasma.
My LG LCD is far sharper though IMO. Struggles with some fast motion/panning shots though

Lcd IMO. Blacks are the main argument people have for plasma. Unless you have a decent LCD and decent plasma side by side you'll never see the difference.
You also can't get plasmas with almost no bezel.
As is said though, take a look and buy what you think looks best.

Thanks for the comments.
Probably going to get a 46" LCD in response to the question above.
I have seen a 54" Plasma which I fancy also, but as I know nothing much about TVs really this whole LCD/Plasma thing has me a bit confused, and from what I can see when I've looked around, the LCD's seem to cost more than the Plasmas.

As said, best bet is to see if you can compare them side by side - Richer Sounds/Sevenoaks (or other AV/HiFi stores) might be able to do it if they stock the two panels. I'd also have a look Avforums and see if there are any relative threads about the panel your buying; always worth looking to see if there are any issues, or hidden features (like enabling USB Divx playback etc).
As for Plasma cost, Panasonic T20/T30/T31 are in the £1.3-1.8k region and Samsung do a few in the £2-3k region (granted they are 50-65"). But that doesn't really make muchs odds; you're after the best panel/spec that's in your budget.
