If you only want the stem seals done, and dont want the valves lapped in etc, inc skimming that most garages will demand....

£500?

Fook me £500 iv just spent £493 last month on having the crankseals and all belts ect done.

If i get the VSOS done thats nearly 1k on a bloody engine.Might just have to put up with it.

The car has not been used properly for about 4-5 weeks basically been getting started to move it about while i do a few things to the body work ect.

It puffs out a cloud of blue smoke on start up and when giving it some revs its blue/white smoke and have alot of condensation coming out the exhaust.

Its always kicked out a puff of blue smoke on start up but never really smoked much when been driven.

Could it be like this because its not getting a run out properly?

garage is probably going to want £500+ then.

It's a LOT of labour, head gasket kit, timing belt kit, new head bolts, possibly a skim, the list goes on and on...

Go buy a Haynes manual, and some tools and do it yourself.

Thats how I got started, when my XE cracked a valve guide, and smashed up a piston. Now I can build a engine, and do a full conversion. Which goes pretty well like in my video.

Sounds like valve stem seals to me Mark. Mine are fooked already and I only changed them last year! Mine puffs out blue smoke on start up every now and then, and when its been allowed to idle for a while, like waiting at traffic lights etc it will sometimes puff a little bit out when I pull away.

Best taking it for a good run and see if it does it under load

If its been on start up for a while, most likely stem seals yes.

Try and get it out on a run and keep an eye on the smoke under load, if its pumping out blue then the rings will be shot.

Shaun your seals musta been rubbish ones or not fitted right!

This is also how i got started. I do it all myself.

I had the engineering shop do the stem seals as i wanted it done on the day and a clamp at halfords was £50, but the shop that was skimming the head only wanted £25.

I did the headgasket and belts etc all by myself.

If you start telling someone that's never held a spanner in their life to just pop down to Halfords and get all the bits needed all that's going to come out of it is about a dozen rounded bolts and a hell of a lot of head scratching.

I dont mind putting the spanner to other parts of the car its just the engine side of things, something is surely gonna go wrong and end up costing me even in the long run.
