We went to look at a house yesterday.... and one of the downsides (bizzarly) is its huge square lounge - with two seats of french doors, and 4 windows from memory.
Its a big room, but we're both stuggling to imagine how it could look with furniture. The ceilings are actually quite high, but it does have that bloody beam running down the centre of the room.
We'd get rid of the 80's brick fire surround and pop in a traditional surround.

oh.... its a very skandinavian house
Amazing quality doors and windows (triple glazed) but daft pine panneling and skinny skirtings and daft pine cornice. That stuff doesnt worry me much.
5 bedrooms, boxroom, 3 bathrooms, lounge, dining room, dining kitchen, detached double garage with loft space.
It has a burn in the garden, a shed, and sun house thing... and a bloody rally track driveway

Our current lounge is 4m wide by 6.5 long... to the width is easy to work with

Hmmm yeah, not really paying attention tbh.
I was thinking more informal eating area, breakfast bar type thing. Room isn't really long enough to work though.

that's the other problem....the house has plenty of other rooms, so no real need to 'double' up any of the rooms.
Has a large dining kitchen and large dining room, and plenty of room for a study.
So this only 'needs' to be a lounge

I like the idea of opening up the back wall with folding doors
that would open it up onto the patio area of the garden

why not?
The back wall (opposite fireplace, not pictured) has a set of double exteral french doors and windows.
Rip all that out, pop in a beam and mount some hinged sliding doors.
