Massively fucked pc alert
It's got a black screen of death (black screen, with a mouse), however cannot fix it.
Tried all possible fix's from Google.
The only thing I can do (Windows Vista) is get Ease of Access thing up (Windows Key & U), Can do anything in there.... but that is it.
No discs in the drive, no devices plugged in.
Took the HD out, stuck the data on an external hd for backup (which can be booted due to having xp on) and now that's in the same boat
I'm now thinking its probably a Virus. Anybody come accross this at all?

That thread seems to suggest corrupt event logs causing the problem? It says basically you need to boot into DOS/command prompt (not go into Windows), rename the c:\windows\system32\winevt\logs folder to something else, create a new logs folder and reboot into Windows...

If it's the same as mine you still get black screen in safe mode.

I'd be backing up the drive (if you believe it has a virus then use a linux live disk to copy it to another removable drive and then use a AV live disk to scan it) and nuking it with a reinstall.

No Dom. Just doesn't like a secondary drive.
However I've got access to all data when I put into a caddy.
Nismo - Nope.
Alex - Same...
Dom - It's currently backing up, and also scanning for any dodgy shizzle.

I've seen this before and I've heard it's corrupt event logs too. Delete the log files from the logs folder and restart, see if it'll rebuild the from fresh

Had a customer thats had several occurances of this. Is RDP turned on? All occurances we had you could RDP in fine but IE would crash amoung other things. The only work around we found was to RDP on and use Autoruns (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902) to disable RAS PLAP Credential Provide in the winlogon tab, however sure this is only present if VPN software or other RAS software is installed.....

There was no remote desktop software turned on no, even if there was it wouldn't load, due to it not physically being able to load on the system?

I had this Whittie, nothing would fix it, when I did fix it, it happened again and again.
Would work in safemode I think, I backed up everything then did a clean install, had no other options.
It doesnt seem to be a virus, its simply a balls deep fuck up by Microsoft that affects (mainly X64) user apparently.

Chances are it's hardware failure if it continues to do it after a fresh install. PSU, Ram and Graphics Card would be my first port of call for something like that.

I thought it might be hardware, there was nothing wrong with any of it, it was software fault, something to do with an update but rolling back the install didnt do anything, its been good as gold since I did a clean install.
