Not surprised there isn't a thread on here but just got round to watching yesterdays Nokia webcast of the new Lumia 920 and WP8 - the specs and looks are fantastic!
Nokia's Webcast
Engadget's Hands-on
Techlive Run Down
Engadget: Lumia Wireless Charging
Will hold judgment 'til i get chance to play with one but so far it looks extremely impressive and WP8 appears to be a big improvement over 7. Especially like the wireless charging, which will be massively useful if they continue to push the charging pads into locations/venues like coffee shops.
Certainly looks like there is some decent competition from Nokia now!

Wireless charging makes me wonder if the iPhone will have it.
It looks massive in one of the pictures of someone holding it. Specs are definitely impressive, if it had android it would sell a significant amount more.

That camera thing is quite funny. Its the fact they were caught out because you can actually see the camera in the reflection. How did they not manage to catch that before it was OKed

They didn't actually say it was shot on a Lumia, rather people assumed. They've apologies all the say though.
Either way, it doesn't distract from the fact the new Lumia's are pretty
John - Be surprised if it does but i certainly like the idea of sitting in a coffee shop (or similar) and the phone is charging whilst on the table.
You're probably right about Android but WP8, so far, looks extremely impressive and i'm starting to like the 'title' system (on a mobile device).

Doubt it, they'll wait for the next one then claim they invented it and call it iCharge or something. Or I could be very wrong and they'll have it.
Also, the Nokias hardware-wise always look nice, but the OS is poop

Where do people put these phones? 70x130 mm is bloody massive to have in your pocket!

Have you tried the OS?

lol - Do you work in marketing. If you interviewed 100 people and showed then the footage I bet 99% of them would say they presume they are seeing two shots taken from a Lumia, one with the ICS enabled one without.
Is the wireless charging they are using an open standard or one they own and/or license?

Admittedly not the new ones, no. It's ok then? Just symbian

Balling - It's not that bad, got to remember it has a relatively decent sized screen and it's still only 10mm bigger than the iPhone 5 all round. Marginally deeper/thicker than a lot of phones on the market though.
Cavey - The OS isn't Symbian if that's what you're thinking; rather it's Windows Phone (in this case, the new WP8).

A standard called QI by Wireless Power Consortium.

I already carry either a laptop or tablet most of the time, when I have the need for screen realestate. When I'm out and about I want a phone that fits easily in a pocket, not one that can show full QWERTY and 30 lines of text.
I already think the 5 is oversized, though the thickness compensates somewhat. 70x130 mm is a behemoth of a phone, even if it was only a couple of mm thick. At 10+ mm it's just a joke.

Comparison (also showing a 'dark theme' for Outlook) against a iPhone 4/4S -
Another Hands-on Video
Certainly a large phone, although i suspect the iPhone 5 will be as long just not as wide.
Also rumours that the Nokia 920 will be heading to Orange/EE and becoming one of the phones EE are debuting for the UK LTE launch.

I assume the new iPhone will be a similar size to the 920?

Marginally due to the smaller screen size but i imagine it'll be nearly as long as the 920 due to the length of the display Apple are using.

Interesting.
The 920 does look quite nice TBH... I was for the most part a Nokia fanboy until their phones/OS started getting shit. If this 920 doesn't crash on a daily basis and has the same sort of apps that I use at the moment I could be tempted back into the Nokia fold.

I've got a Lumia 710 work phone with windows mobile on it and very impressed, if I wasn't so taken by my apple products I may have even been tempted.

At the time and problems aside, I loved my N95.

Still rock a N95 (mainly for battery life) and so far it's been rock solid, even survived a fair few bounces on the ground.
chrisritch - What was wrong with the N8? Thought the recent firmware updates (there's another on the horizon) was suppose to sort a lot of the bugs out?
Tbh, i'm all over the 920 - top notch spec and it's brilliantly designed (they just need to do it in cyan). Will have to wait until i see WP8 in the flesh though.
