Officially out today, yet I'm still not in a rush to upgrade.
Who will be upgrading?

Its great on a tablet! A couple of the MD's use them instead of laptops!

Stores are just using them for internet orders and training

They've made a mess of the whole tablet thing as usual. It's too confusing with the names to begin with, then there's the problem of ARM stuff not being completely compatible with x86, then it's all too expensive.

Had a chance to change the market, bumbled it.

Having used it at work I can't really see the reasons to move from Windows 7. Have you found anything thats much better than Windows 7 in it?

Nothing really better than 7 no, 7 is a pretty good OS. I just like having the latest.

Hmm, I have MDs who leave lots if apps open at once, outlook, excel, access, project, IE etc and id wonder how well the tablet would stack up like this.
I assume you can install regular apps as you normally would? (Minus a disk drive)

What's the main differences between RT and Pro?

RT is for ARM based devices

Pro + Enterprise for normal chips

just seen a video and didnt know the true difference.
In simple terms, the RT (ARM) is more of a locked OS and not generally compatible with existing programs, where as the Pro is the Intel i5 chip and all normal software should install fine.

ammi rite?

Pretty much yea. I haven't had an issue installing anything on the tablet yet. Hopefully when SP1 is released you can configure it straight to desktop instead of metro though

Stardock have brought a nice desktop start menu to win8.
I also found a link to get free media centre for win8: http://bit.ly/VHAU9S
It's only free for a short time.

Just make desktop the first icon on metro and hit enter when you log in. That's what I've done

Its going to be very interesting how they play it. Non techies will get very annoyed if they buy a Windows tablet to find that 'most' windows software does not actually run on it and (i guess) you have to go through their app store. (I'm sure there will be downloadable apps as well but I presume they are trying to push their own app store for Windows RT

A lot of people aren't going to know the difference between ARM and Intel systems - could make things interesting when you're trying to flog hardware and software to the general public who think a processor is just measured by some kind of number and call their HDD memory.

Won't be moving to it, not until there is some form of standard desktop as metro, which is brilliant for tablets, is complete BS for desktop use.

windows website says only apps from the app store can be installed. sounds as limited as iOS, bet it doesnt get as much abuse.
