Can't decide what to have, I can have either a Macbook Pro with i5 and 8GB RAM or I can have Dell Latitude 6430 with an i7 and 8GB RAM.

I would use the OSX but don't need it for work, I predominantly use Windows which the mac would run both, however I don't need OSX so could use the Dell.

What would you choose?

Depends what you do and what you're used to.

I work in OSX in a Windows environment, and it's not as difficult as some would have you believe. I run the Office suite and we never have compatibility issues.

I'm used to working in OSX and prefer the workflow, however from what little I've used the newer Windows versions I think I could probably get used to that as well.

Two problems I can think of, being the only person on a Mac:
1. Shared contact groups aren't visible in Outlook, which is often a huge pain for me.
2. I do web work and can't proof in IE natively from OSX.

You don't buy Apple for hardware (*awaits someone to mentioned 'retina'*) as the same (or better tbf) can be had cheaper and it sounds like you'd be just doing that. Purchase the Dell.

And if you want to dick around with OSX, just dual-boot it on the Dell - works the same.

I run both at work and have parallels running in coherence mode.

Just upgraded my ram to 16 GB today from 8Gb, was £60 from Crucial with next day delivery.

is it usb 3 or 2? i fancy a usb 3 to hdmi to hook up to the tv but i dont know if there will be lag issues like with usb 2

USB 3 but i dont think my 2011MBP is USB 3 so its backwards compatible to USB 2 and still works very well, surprisingly well actually.

I've said it before but I deal with hundreds of users. Almost without exception, you can tell how much work they do the instant you see they've got a Mac.

Don't work in IT do you Nismo? The site engineer at my place got his own office a while back, he promptly upgraded his work station to quad monitors, and then not long after 3 of those monitors got hooked up to the Sky box which also plays in the canteen....

All he seems to do all day is say 'turn it off, turn it back on', and takes buggered laptops apart. I wish I was him

You cannot use a Mac to do fuck all as an office user imho. My MacBook Pro is ok for browsing the web and playing video, that's about it really. Outlook 2011 is shite compared to 2010 and Mail does not work very well linked to an Exchange 2010 account.

In this case the tools are pretty pap under OSX.

Exchange works fine* but Mail app is pretty basic in functionality compared to Outlook and Outlook 2011 differs a reasonable amount (how mail is imported in one or how attachments are handled) to Outlook under Windows.

Tbf from my experience of using Macs over the last 11 years, you're better off sticking with Windows if you want to use Exchange and Outlook (/Office) - nothing remotely comes close.

* well, there's plenty of people over on the Apple forums that'd say otherwise but *touch wood* i haven't had an major issues apart from calendars.

It might be the Hosted Exchange provider i use. Works perfectly fine on my iPad though.

I really like the Mail App but the issue i was having was mail would disappear and i would have to hit rebuild. Also, mail would take up to an hour to appear at times when it had already arrived on my phone and iPad.

Calendars, these don't seem to be compatible with MS Outlook 2010 either.

I'll probably test Mail now with 365 or a Small Business Server 2011.

Don't get me wrong here, i really do like apple kit, but i don't think it is quite there just yet to be using for office business use. This is my opinion of course!
