This at all possible? I need to be able to record via a webcam (over night), but for the screen to be off as per title. I pressed the FN & F2 button which (in my case) changes it to a LCD screen (obviosuly not attached) so it 'goes off until you hit a key. I've tried the power options also but works until you move the mouse. Anything else I can try.

Thank you.

Power Settings so when you close the lid on the laptop it never turns off, and hard disks never spin down etc. Then press record on your software and close the lid.

oh wait, is it a crappy webcam ontop of the laptops screen? - if it is then configure power settings for the display to turn off after 2 minutes idle. Just make sure the laptop doesn't go to sleep or anything

Willay: Yeah that's right mate. But i've tried that and when you 'accidently' move the mouse it powers back up.

If you can't adjust the brightness or use the power-save option to turn the display off then use an external camera and close the lid.

But we've had a mystrious person in, cleaning the office, i.e emptying bins/vacumming and need to find out who.

Edit: We have only 1 contracted person in to clean for us, she has been away for the last 10-14 days. Mobile is off and the land line number relates to a different house that, the person living there has never heard of her.

I've actually heard about these gangs of rogue cleaners who break in to offices and just clean the shit out of everything. Serious stuff!

Talking of stupid, am I reading your post wrong or do you not get the jist of what I'm saying?

The screen will remain off until the mouse is moved yes, but who the fuck is going to move the mouse anyway? If you are bothered about the 'mystery cleaner' moving the mouse on the laptop to see whats going on then lock the screen ?

willay: You are correct in what you're saying, but if they polish the desk then they are going to disturb the mouse aren't they?

Brett: Tell me about it. It is a straight up company, honest.

If they polish the desk yes, sounds like its external, so just unplug it?

Again if its built in and you think it will turn the screen on, then lock it?

Or just set it to return to the log in screen one when coming back from screensaver/monitor off mode. Laptop will still be running but will just show as left on and locked.

I'm with ya willay.
