Decided we wanted a new Kitchen in about April; we previously had a lounge dinner with double doors through which we blocked off earlier in this year as per my lounge thread. This left us with a door through to the dinning room from the kitchen and a small utility room where the back door and downstairs toilet are.
So my plan was to turn this into one open plan room
Firstly ordered a new Howdens Cream gloss integrated handle kitchen
Then all new AEG appliances
Then the destruction started; initially I thought the wall was stud as when tapped sounded hollow; turned out it was solid and have been dot and dabbed (im not to clued up on DIY which is where the first problem is!!). So would need a lintel put in; this held things up a lot as had to get an engineer to do the calcs as to what was needed.
The the boiler was on its way out; so took this oportuntity to relocate and install a large radiator for the whole room
and the boiler relocated to the garage
So in the mean time started to strip out:
- Part of the utility wall down; had the pipes cut above when boiler was fitted
Other side down; use to be a door way through here
Then for the Catnic to be installed (on the hotest day of the year!!) by me my dad and Father in-law!
Tools for the day!
Started stripping the wall
Beam in; had to remove so outer blocks and post in through!!
- Then take the rest of the wall down
Resulted in quite a mess!!
All cleaned up and useable again
Started emtying and removing
Fridge freezer ripped out and sold on
and the oven housing; then relating it to be sat on the side!!
Then at the start of this week looked like this
Spot lights fitted throughout and wiring sorted so had to box everything in

I've just finished an almost identical project, combining two rooms into one to make a much larger kitchen. As a rule, I will always use fireboard over steels, however, double boarding is an acceptable alternative. I just don't like to lose the extra inch and its extra work!! I'll dig out some photos of the one I've just done

Aye, that is a project and a half! At least you got family who are handy with stuff like this, my grandad was great at this (built my mum's downstairs loo and utility almost singlehandedly) but he's not around anymore to ask for advice.
Looks like great progress though and if it looks anything like the showroom picture above it will all be worth it.

Look forward to seeing this done. Same kitchen I'm goin for for my first house, and also knocking wall down, putting a beam in and having open plan kitchen/dining room. Although I have a full house to do not just the one room

That looks really nice mate
As for lights; we have the white light LED ones and they are really clear; and does seem to be enough for how I want it.
And I think the ceeling looks lower as one had bee plastered at that point and the other not
Anyway here is a bit more progress:
Plastering all done

Painting started...
Will get some more later as its now all done bar the gloss work
Also went back into howdens yesterday and changed the plans; got another curved unit to go where the breakfast bar was and then cuboards to fill also as thought we would rather have storage than a breakfast bar.
Also ordered solid oak flooring to go down aswell.
Only slight problem is the fitter cant do it until the 7th; but he is going to do 1 day on Monday and get some of it in inc the oven so we can cook properly again!!

Few more of it nearly painted; some patches still drying tho
And the flooring arrived; has to be stored in the house for a couple of week to climatise
Also new Bi-folding door and all new switches came today which I might have a bash at fitting over the weekend

You getting someone in to do the skirting boards? I did my own, taking the originals off to lay the floor but wrecked them and some of the wall in the process, but cutting the new ones and getting them to fit was a right PITA
edit - they still aren't finished but they are on the wall

Great work so far, it's really coming together. When we change our kitchen Howdens are on the list of people to talk to.
Out of interest, who have you bought the bi-fold door from?

Danny - Will prob do the skirting boards myself; have done quite a few in the past and have a mitre saw and not had many problems before
Pop - the bi fold is an internal one for the kitchen through to hall; just a b&q £90 job
Cheers Nath
Rite on with some progress......
The kitchen fitter had a spare day on Monday so has made a start on the full height bank; so we now have an over again
Any yesterday the wallpaper arrived so with the help of the outlaws we got that all hung and the radiator back on. I need a new connector for the TV which is why you can see some cable hanging
