THIS SUMMER I WILL BE ABLE TO AFFORD ENGINE CONVERSION AND IM not sure wether to go for 1.616v or 2.0l.

im going to be keeping this car for a while so i was thinking of going for 1.6, keeping insurance down and then getting throttle bodies later on.

for those who have had conversion- is it much ncheaper to go for 1.6 compared to 2.l?

is the 1.6 much more reliable- cos the weight of my mates 2.0l keeps snapping engine mounts

what is insurance going to be on both- 21 with 3 year no claims- i take there pretty similar

what sort of bhp can you get out of standard 1.6- 2.0l, and what can you potentially get out of them? How much lighter is 1.6- will handling be beter than 2.0l

i know this question has been asked before but there seems to be lots of people looking at conversions at the moment so its probably of interest to lots of people on here

Handling, i presume will be a fair bit better but a 2 litre certainly wont make it undriveable.

Fairly straight forward to get 150bhp from the 1.6 but it'l never have the same torque as the 2 litre.

i want to use car as a track day car eventually- not 1/4 mile so do you reckon 1.6 would be better option

i just dont want to constantly regret not getting 2l

If you want a straight swap, go for the 1.6, if you want out-of-the-box power, then go for the 2.0!

X16XE = 106bhp
C20XE = c. 150bhp

Not sure tbh. The 1.6 16v would probly be better for track days, but the 2 litre for 1/4 mile.

200BHP mental high revving 1.6 16v on throttle bodies for a track car imo.

A 200bhp 1.6 would beat a 200bhp 2.0litre round the track. 2.0litres affect the handling of the car a lot i think.

as said, 2.0litre is better for straight line fun and power, but the 1.6 16v is still the better engine

daimo could you give me idea of how much it would cost to get a 1.6 close to 200bhp- and stages you would do it in

I dont think its possible to build a track car and expect it to be an every day reliable drive. Then again i suppose there are different stages to a 'Track car'.

yeah i want to do this gradually- get 1.6, strip out rear add a few engine mods and then maybe wait a year before i go for throttle bodies- dont finish uni for another year and a half so i cant consider buying a second car to use everyday untill i am working full time

i can afford to get either conversion done with all th other necessary bits and pieces and then gradually improve the performance

just trying to decide what engine i should start with as a base, and in what order i should add to it

Andys is ok, but then he's spent sh1tloads

To get a 1.6 up to around 200bhp, ur gonna need Throttle bodies. Flowed and ported intlet and exhaust manifolds (to match the head), 4-21 manifold, grp A system, engine managment, uprated internals, Cams, Pocketted pistons to match the duration of the cams (would have to be pretty wild too), conrod bolts, valve springs, etc etc.

Your gonna be looking at at least £3-£4k to get the ening eup to 200bhp i reckon (properly). That would be a reliable 200bhp as well.

cheaper initial costs for the 1.6, no need for uprated engine mounts,driveshafts etc. could be fitted in a day, prob cost you 400ish for the engine (a good one) and then labour on top, or DIY it.

For £4k u can have a 2.0litre, Throttle bodies, exhaust etc and have around 180-190bhp. But thats including buybing and fitting the engine.

If ur gonna spend £4k on the engine u mayt as well go for the SBD tp208 kit, and a few more mods, and have around 220-230bhp

But then its a heavy engine and i can deffo say it wont handle as well.

Boy is the 2.0litre fun though
