Gonna change my sump gasket, anyone done it before is it hard ?
Also wheres the best place to jack the car up if i want to put the front on axle stands, it needs to be central of course??.

Drive the car up on some ramps, or use axle stands.
Run the engine for about 30 seconds just to loosen & warm the oil a little to help drain it, then drain the oil out
Remove the front section of the exhaust system once its cooled down
There should be 3 bolts securing the sump cover to the gearbox, remove these first
Unscrew all the other bolts on the sump
There are a few plastic plugs which you need to be prised from the cylinder block to access the two end bolts which secure the sump to the cylinder block.
It should now come off (it may need a gentle tap from a rubber mallet)
Give it all a good clean, i just use a strong piece of rag to get all the muck off
There may be a bit of oil still in the sump, so dont tip it when you've removed it, drain whats left in the bucket & give that a good clean also (don't use water, just a good rub-down with a rag will do)
Refit the sump-to-cylinder block bolts, but cover the bolt threads with some thread locking compound, and same with sump-to-gearbox bolts, and lightly tighten them all
Then tighten the sump-to-gearbox bolts to about 44lbf ft (yes 44) of torque, and then once there tight, tighten the sump-to-block bolts to only 6lbf ft of torque.
Fit yaself a new oil filter & then refil the oil, checking for leaks. Check again for leaks after about 250miles & then every 500 miles for 1500 miles (to play it safe)

if you've got a replacement sump gasget, all you need really is some thread lock compound, the gasget shouldnt cost too much, just a few quid. I wouldnt really use some of this liquid-gasget shite, its not really worth the hastle or the mess, use a proper GM part

DONT USE GASGET SEALENT!!!!!
ive had 2 do my sump twice. works well without, i used it on the last 1 and it leaked...
wash the sump out with petrol toog e tthe shite off. dont forget too dry it after tho.

right well i ve ordered the gasket from vaux & i m getting the compound which should be used when replacing a gasket is this correct ?
Should i use this gasket compound ?
Where can i get lock thread compound from ? halfords ?

I think your meant to use 2 dabs of the vaux black tar stuff on the join where the oil pump joins the block. Any thread lock will work, although vaux do a nice pink one!

on the lump rear mount until ya get ya stands there

there should be jacking points behind the front wheel arches, just in from where your meant to put the spare wheel jack
