Really hope they don't go with an edge to edge screen. I'll be forever touching the edge of the screen with my thumb.

I like the screen size as it is.. Seen a Galaxy S 2 for the first time the other day in the o2 shop and it looked ridiculous with its huge screen.

If this is the case and they release a 4S and a redesigned 5 together I think Apple have dropped a bollock.

Should have waited with the white iPhone 4 in April and just relased a black/white 4S at the normal time in June this year and then waited till next year for the redesigned 5.

why would they do that? they know there are some big phones out there, they need to re-stamp their hardware dominance. The 3GS sold well even after the iPhone 4 release.

Yup.. It's not like Apple to bring out two product revisions at the same time. Means folk will choose one or the other rather than buying both if they were released some months or a year apart.

Because in June it would have been 12 months after the iPhone 4 release, people were expecting an update, dual core and 8mp camera would have been a nice little upgrade just as samsung/htc were releasing dual core phones. Then next year the 5 could have been redesigned with further upgraded components as tech will have moved on another 12 months.

The iPhone 4S and 5 you are describing are the same phone in different cases. There's no benefit of them releasing both at the same time.

yes there is, they can target two different markets, one who are desperate for an apple smartphone but dont want to pay £500 for it, but £300, or free on a £25 contract sounds more appealing.

you are underestimating the shear volume of iPhones that are sold every day all over the world

I understand what you're saying but 8gb of memory is probably less than a quid to Apple, so I doesn't make business sense to then sell it for £100-200 less. But we shall wait and see, never know it could be the - one more thing.

I've only read bits and bobs on the net but they all seem to suggest the same thing, there will be a 5 and a watered down 4S released at the same time.

i dont think they'd mind not making profit on a non-flagship device, knowing they'll make profit on apps/music etc because of it

I think Russ is wrong. They have always re released the current phone with a downsized memory as the "cheaper" alternative. This isn't a wow cheap iPhone it's simply the cheper option that has been sold alongside the current or new model they have been doing for years. It's not impossible that they might revise the antenna layout and use that in the "new" 4 with 8th memory but I would find the likelyhood of them redesigned two phones highly unlikely.

Just the 4 in 8th no other changes and the iphone5. Which I was convinced would be the same form factor but the internet says otherwise.

Last year was the first time they did this, releasing a 3GS with 8GB.

Prior to this they just kept one of the previous versions in service but they did not make changes.

apple could release 3 phones and still sell loads. theyve probably got iphone 6-20 planned so whatever theyve done with release dates will be for a reason.

Had it up for £390 for the past couple of week's, had one idiot on ebay buy it with no feedback so didnt send it. I'd be happy to take £370, its only a few months old and bought originally direct from Apple.

Seen locked ones with no warranty left go for the same as what I'm asking.
