It will probably have still been dispatched from the UK. They normally do ship them out a good few days in advance. Means they make sure all of them get to the destination depots without issue. Also means they can spread the load.

Cool. That makes sense. I can't see Apple letting people have anything earlier than they want them to

There's normally a few that get there early but it doesn't happen on a mass scale.

Have you decided if you are going to sell yours?

Completely depends what they are selling for. I do fancy one but I was planning on waiting a while to get it, no real requirement for it.
I'm not particularly bothered either way.

Might as well sell it if you aren't that fussed about having it for a bit. Sods law if you had bought 2 they wouldn't be selling as well

I had a quick look earlier and the sold ones were only about 440, you'd lose money selling for that on ebay.
Checked gumtree as well, so many deluded people trying to offload the current one for far too much.

It's not the old days anymore - just pre-order it and you'll get one.

I'm genuinely not, it would be novel but I've been doing loads of work recently so have the laptop sitting open beside me anyway.

If I didn't need to work from home from time to time, I would consider getting rid of my PC and just having the iPad.
Controversy

iPad (and macs) are great if you don't have a requirement for proper work.

I can work from home on a Mac. I just use a Java based app that lets me log onto my work PC.
In fact it would probably work on an iPad but it wouldn't be very productive.

"I took my place by mistake in the queue two days ago not realising it was the queue for the new Apple iPad 3 to be released in UK on 16th March"
:lol
On another note, why are there 300 people there

What is it with weirdos queuing outside instead of going to work like a normal human being and getting it delivered there?

This.. I'd so much rather be in work tomorrow and have Mr UPS deliver my iPad there than have to put up with the company of 200 bellends, possibly in the rain, for hours on end.

And how does someone accidentally end up in a queue? Kudos for having the ingenuity to try to make some money though

It's held true for every single company I've dealt with. It doesn't hold true for some specific cases where they either actually really need a mac or are tech savvy and understand/can work around the limitations.
Anybody I deal with who has a mac for company business doesn't do any work, they buy it purely because it looks good, every single one then complains because it doesn't work with loads of common software and they can't view an xlsx properly.
Perfect extremely convenient example today. Big bucks consulting company we do work for, all swapped over to macbooks a couple of years ago at considerable cost. Meeting today to discuss moving back to windows (dell) because not one of their clients has ever supported mac and it's caused nothing but hassle.

Did nobody at your client's company ask the question as to whether their clients support Macs or not beforehand?

Nope, people wanting a mac never do, they just think it looks nice.
I'm surprised you have one doing what you do Sam.
I'd get annoyed all the time supporting Windows if I had a mac.
They definitely have their place, nice kit, not in a windows world.
