So all the web developers, graphic designers, scientists, engineers, software developers, music producers e.t.c. who seem to be able to 'get past the limitations' aren't doing proper work?

Good example of this is a picture from a google meeting I seen today or yesterday, all macs, of course I'm not saying they don't know what they are doing.

Nope, people wanting a mac never do, they just think it looks nice.
I'm surprised you have one doing what you do Sam.
I'd get annoyed all the time supporting Windows if I had a mac.
They definitely have their place, nice kit, not in a windows world.
I can run all my favourite apps on my MBP like I could on my old Windows laptop. Plus it's good experience for me as I learn more about Mac OS X (and discover that it's a lot like Linux which I've toyed with in the past). I would like to start support Macs soon, probably ought to go on some kind of training course for it or wait a few years and teach myself
I do still have several PCs and laptops running various forms of Windows here as well

I've been doing loads of stuff on a german mac this week, really annoying because I don't know it inside out like windows, with an extra layer of complication because I don't know German.
All because the software he needs only works in windows

As a software developer there is nothing i do at work that I could not do if I had a mac (we'll except compile our product but hardly anyone does that, shown by half the developers running ubuntu on their dev environments)

Going on one end of this month, had my MBP about 6weeks used maybe 6 times, need to install Virtual Box on it and put Win 7 image on!

iPad (and macs) are great if you don't have a requirement for proper work.
Utter trype! iPads have changed the way our company works, and since moving over to a mac my life has been easier.

Say what I see, dealing with loads of companies in loads of industries, not one specific thing, like viewing video feeds, which isn't exactly work, the iPad is basically a glorified display in that case.

Well in our company, our engineers have iPads, they are used to fill in job sheets, take photos of the work done get the customers signature and send that back to the office, they used to post them and have to wait, we can now invoice the same day. They use the iPads as email clients and can draw site diagrams and layout maps and mail straight to service desk. They also have all engineer guides saved in iBooks so if they are stuck with any configuration on site they have every guide they need, and access the internal CRM VPN using them.
Our sales guys use them for demos, CRM access, mail, and doing quotes on.
And the fact that the battery lasts over a week, they only need to charge them at weekends.
Maybe they don't fit the bill for other companies but for use they are perfect.

I'm misunderstood, I'm well aware they are excellent kit and have their uses.
All of the things you've described have been available for ages, every delivery guy that comes to the door does most of that on an old winmo scanner, the ipad just looks better.
Excellent sales tools, outside of the hassle to develop the sales displays on them because they don't support powerpoint properly or clickable links.

.
Whilst multiple tools like this have been available they have not been available in a easy easy to use, single unit does it all and is cheap and portable. Developers now are better at developing apps for them too so custom apps cost less to develop.
A good example of the cost issue is where the airlines are looking to use iPads. The in-flight TV systems in airline chair cost a small fortune (and often go wrong and when they do go wrong your stuffed) but you can get an ipad. Put virtually as much on it and if it breaks, you have backups and they cost way less.
