Having owned both ash could you justify the difference in price both for the handset and the monthly costs?

Ask me again after a week. At first I was really, really impressed but as time goes on and through day to day use the cracks soon begin to show. Its just quite flaky and unpredictable.
I'm already verging on saying the iPhone is worth the extra, but I've kind of ruined it now as going back to a small screen will be
Trying to post on someone's wall on facebook this morning just keep getting a connection error 'please try again later' even though I've clearly got 3G.
eBay app will not load messages on anything other than Wifi which is really annoying as I get lots of messages everday on my business account and usually respond straight away, I'd go back to iPhone for just this problem alone tbh.
Official twitter app is crap(on both iPhone and Android) but all the third party ones are worse than that.
They're only little things but when they add up to a list as long as your arm it starts to grind you down. A phone should add value to your life, make it easier and add convenience, help you with daily tasks. I'm finding this just makes it more difficult.

What does the S3 do better though? Or is the price point really the only advantage?

The price point is an obvious advantage (but if you took into account depreciation I'm not sure there would be that much in it).
The bigger screen is really nice to use.
Having settings on settings on settings is good if you like fiddling.
Ok now I'm struggling....
EDIT: Notification light is useful.

Not sure how you are managing that, I piss about with loads of stuff and the only apps that crash are dodgy ones (same as with iPhone).
Predictably does whatever I ask it to
Going to a smaller screen after using the S3 is terrible, sucked you in and caught you now

I never used Airplay on my iPad/iPhone but yeah I'd imagine it's good if you use it.

Why would I make stuff up? Its not asif I'm trying to fuck about with it (I've purposely left it stock for that reason). They're not crashing they just don't work.
Doing simple things like trying to read my ebay messages and post on a mates FB wall. That said google shows the eBay ones been around since 2008.
Funnily enough I took screenshots this morning and sent them to my work email using the gallery app to post up but they've still not arrived. Checked my sent box and not in there, just done it again, got the 'sent' confirmation but still not arrived or in my sent box. Brilliant
Also, just becuase I've pressed the volume button accidentally (which I seem to do all the time with the sleep button being opposite) does not mean I no longer want silent mode. Caught me out in meetings a few times now.

the one thing that i dislike about the phone is the buttons actually, i dont think the standby button should be opposite the volume ones as i keep putting it into standby when i adjust the volume

Your right, both issues work on Wifi. Shame I'm only on wifi for about 5% of my day.

.....
Sounds like you have a problem with 3rd-party apps rather than the actual phone.
But granted the Facebook app is shite (it's shite on most platforms due to it being HTML5 based; they're working on a native app for Android, no idea on release date though), last night it struggled to do a 'check in' even though i was on WiFi Apparently Friendcaster is a better app or use the mobile site (m.facebook.com). However, i got a facebook update this morning which apparently offers a load of bug fixes - will have to see if it's done anything.
For twitter, i use Tweetdeck which is offers a damn good experience.

The sad truth is, today you have to judge a phone by the quality and quantity of available 3rd party apps.

I'll give tweetdeck a go. Looked at a few others but could already tell from the screenshots they were rubbish before installing them.
iPhones FB app has been native for a while and is actually pretty good.
Will have to try a none official eBay app too.
