What engine is it?
Could be hallsensor problem or something, i've never had a set of plugs wear out, just replaced them regardless.

1.2 8v na when i had it over halled a while ago the bloke sed fut bet them plugs cost u a bit they r some NGK twin core puker things, they will last u ages. they was in the car when i got it !

It was probably damp in the distributor or something, stopping it sparking.

plugs wont last forever... esp it they get fouled up and covered in fuel a lot
