they might have ironed the problems out, mine has the power block with a fan and some air vents on one side and runs fine, i played for hours and then exited a game completely, left for about an hour while i do something and then watched a movie with no problems.
there has been a few problems with the ps3 but its to early to tell if these have been fixed we will have to wait a few more months and see if people keep getting faults with, a worrying fault with a ps3 was from a video on youtube a saw where loads of black lines coming out of the car(not meant to happen btw) and people were saying its the graphics card or something unable to cope. not sure how accurate those statements were but apparently it happens on pc ones aswell and doesnt sound good

same here, I am really tempted to get myself one but seem to see problems posted up everywhere I look!
You 2 really are a pair of pussies. Any mass produced electronics can go wrong. Its not like when this red light stuff happends you lose out on your £280

Where did I say 3 people? I said every person I know or have spoken to which is about 7 or 8 people and every one of them was moaning.
I just find it quite funny how as soon as you buy a product you have to instantly stick up for it over anything else when it's clear they do have problems and thats not to say the ps3 won't be the same or, god forbid, worse.

last time you were slating the 360 it was 3 or 4 people you knew
i know your after a ps3 and it could well be worse than the 360 with faulty consoles like you say.
iirc the number of faulty 360 consoles was somehting like 2.7% out of the total number of 360s sold

I don't have £280 to waste on one either.
If you buy it from a high street store there is no way you will be losing out on £280. 99% of places swap them over for a brand new one, no questions asked. If the store dont replace it, Microsoft will.

I don't think hammer is after a ps3 at all
270k consoles is a massive amount.
I'd have expected it to be tens of thousands at most.

why is everyone making such a big deal out of this? (by the way I'm not defending the 360 just because I have one either).

I think the big deal was because therer were people arguing till they were blue in the face how 360's didn't break at all and every ps3 made didn't work full stop.
Now it seems loads of people are having problems with 360's.

plus i doubt the bew ones will break, due to the updates they have made. My new style PSU doesnt ever get hot, same as my 360.

270k have been replaced according to the figures up there.
Out of even 10 million thats a massive amount.

Yes but remember they were probably 1st gen ones, without the proper cooling.
Plus people are probably puttin them on carpet or having lots of other equipment piled ontop of them, or putting them in confined spaces. A % has to be down to the consumer IMO.
And for the record i will be getting a PS3, but not on launch, as its just too expensive.

I think I could go in and save them 40% and deserve a black belt straight away.

Yeah
On the basis of 270k they need to make another 80m defect free to attain 6th sigma
The carpet issues etc. are unacceptable as microsoft should have worked that in... the thing that I think gives them some grace is the fact that its emerging technology and thus unpreidctable to an extent... Im sure the newer ones dont suffer with anywhere near the same issues!

thats what I was getting at. Im not for or against both the PS3 or xbox, but just remember loads of people saying how thy never break, blah blah and ps3's would.

the newer ones failure rate is lower than the first gen of 360's released.
