to start with it will cut out, but then it will fight with itself to stay above 500rpm for a while and then cut out or pick up and decide to rev at about 1800rpm

Most probably the ICV. They are about £40 from Autovaux. Don't pay for fitting, do it yourself. It's an easy job when you have an aftermarket inlet. You could take it off and clean it out to see if it makes a difference.

is the black bolted on thing at the top of the throttle body where the red arrow is pointing to the icv
or is it the black thing underneath that where the blue arrow is pointing to at the bottom of the throttle body??

Just unplug the icv, no need undo the batt.
It has a flat 4wire plug.
The other sensor is the TPS, with a 3pin round plug.

The ecu wouldn't be able control the motor, so it would just idle at however the ecu left the motor
To clean it you need remove the whole thing.

It's held on by two torx screws and it's the black round thing. Take it off, and clean all the shit out of the passage. MAke sure it moves free and then put it back in. It may solve the problem.

just took my car to a local garage, all the way there everytime i went to pull off from stationary the revs would drop before picking up everytime i touched the accellerator.
got there they plugged in a machine and said o the machine is coming back with nothing because its not a standard air filter, you will have to book it in so we can look over it properly (an hour)
they seem to wreckon its an air leak and dint say anything about icv
