Could get a cheaper psu, drop the graphics card for a 320mb one or just use the one you already have. Get a cheaper mobo about £70ish

Ok really needing some help here on this people. Got a load of private work in and now is the time to get a new pc.

Looking around £550ish mark, obviously the best i can get for around that price?

I could possibly upgrade other bits to higher spec at a later date, but need it pretty nippy at standard, and be able to play the latest games, obviously not at the highest spec, il leave that for a later date.

So any ideassss?

Andy - Would my current graphics card run in that machine? Or would it be a serious slow down to the system?

I have a DVD-RW drive, my Radeon 9800PRO 128mb graphics card, 180gb HDD and 1gb of RAM (how do i find out if i have the right type?)

Those are the only bits really transferable? Current processor is a P4 2.8

E6750 £115.59 Ebuyer
Abit IP35-e £65.20 Scan
OCZ 2GB Platinum £60.98 Dabs
Samsung 500GB £59.76 Dabs
Corsair HX520W £63.32 Dabs
Leadtek 8800GTS 640MB £206.04

That comes to 570 ish. You may be able to get free delivery from dabs and a fiver off too.

You could use your old dvd drive or get a new one for about £18. Then you just need a case, find a nice one you like and thats it.

Graphics card is the most expensive thing that hits the budget, but its a good price for one. Or you could get a 320mb version instead.

Possibility of getting a cheaper cpu and overclocking it aswell.

Antec Nine Hundred Case - £65
Abit FP-IN9 SLI - £72
Intel E6750 - £115
2GB Crucial Balistix PC2-6400 - £83
Sapphire X1950XT GPU -£105
Corsair 520W Modular PSU - £65
Vista Premium (OEM) - £65
Own HDD
Own DVD-RW
Own Floppy

Total - £570

Few options....could use your old GPU (although probably not upto most modern games) and get a better MoBo making the PC more future proof and then upgrade GPU later. Could also lower price by getting a slower CPU and then upgrading this later.

Personally I would say to sacrifice a decent GPU for now and get a good Mobo, but really depends how long you intend to keep this comp.

Really need a case as this one is smashed to bits and i doubt the PSU is upto much.

Andy - First off a new case is going to put £100 on that, and then i need an OE which is another £70ish

Cosmo - I quite like the look of that. I could build that and use my current GFX card, then upgrade that at a later date, Vista + applications dont really use the card for processes, its more the RAM and processor??

I think i will need a new HDD though as i want to keep all my music & pics on this current one now, and install it in the new pc.

I thought the prices of PCs had come down Maybe i need to increase my budget.......

if your keeping your old GPU then you could easily afford a better mobo (extra £40ish) and a new HDD (£60ish)

cut back on the GPU to a 320MB model (the 640MB is only good at much larger resolutions anyway) and then get a much better MoBo.

Yup, atleast that one. Or the Asus P5K Premium which is about £130. That supports the new Intel chipsets so should be fairly future proof (although wont support DDR3 memory, but thats still majorly expensive at the moment anyway).
