You spend like 1% of the game in present time, you whingin gits! It's a fuckin ace game, now deal with it.
As for "actually assassinating" people...There's lots of missions to save citizens etc where you can stealth up to them etc

Rented this out tonight and I must say I'm extremely impressed 
The Viewpoint bits look stunning, and the leaps of faith are quite cool to.

i see strange stuff like when enemies after you you can go into merge mode and they cant say you just because your praying

That doesn't happen when being chased. Only before hand, it allows you to blend in and look like a Scholar.

am sure i watched a vid where some enemies were slicing at you then you go onto blend and they suddenly cant see you even though your stood right next to them

had it 2 weeks sunz, been played pretty much every day, but had a good stint yesterday and today.
steve, its slightly more complicated than that, but only just. you have different levels of exposure, depending on what you're doing, where you are, which enemies are looking at you etc. but in order to lose enemies you need to break the line of sight then hide, or keep fighting til there are no more enemies left

its linear in other ways though steve, in order to unlock the ability to assassinate your target you have to investigate where he'll be and the best ways to kill him, despite all this you always end up fighting all his guards then killing your target
also, the investigations consist of 3/4 ways of obtaining information which get tiresome

Completed this today and really enjoyed playing it. It got better and more interesting towards the end I thought, but without any difficulty settings or online play I don't think it has much replay value. So I'm looking forward to the next one now.

Fair enough The only good thing about Assassins creed is the combat system, its fun for awhile.. counter attacking and assassin kills.. but even they get repetitive after awhile like the rest of the game (climbing endless towers, saving civilians) call them side missions? 
Oblivion is where it's at.. thousands of side quests which are all totally different from eachother and of course the main storyline quests.

Not sure I like it, boring if I say so - all much the same. Played it a few hours but now fed up. COD4 was much better
