right small update. we unplugged the idle control valve and it runs quite a bit smoother on start up.
so we're going to change that see what happens
going to have to leave the mot till tomorrow though

the idle control valve won't be causing the missfire though.on mine the fuel pump relay was at the end of the loom in the engine bay tucked behind the battery.

cant remember lol. the icv is not active when the throttle is open.all it does is alow a certain amount of air through to keep the engine idling.

well thats whats happening mostly.
the car revs alright but on idle when cold is awful
and when cold /warmining up lurches on over-rev.

sorry got mixed up
throttle posish sensor right? didnt think they were adjustable on XE's?
also we've found a random black box maybe 1"x1" floating around at the back-right of the block that should be bolted down but isn't.
ideas of what it is?

has gone in for MOT at the mo mate cant grab you a pic. is on a small bracket.
on your avatar, if it was my engine, is floating around on two vacuum hoses between your header tank and top right of the block, a couple of inches down the side....
