The floating wall will be a deep red and the surrounding walls either a white / cream or natural hessian.
But paint doesnt come cheap these days so thats being put off till jan now as i need MDF filler and primer first!

why did you use MDF over say plasterboard?
Is the TV mounted in the flaoting wall (so nearly flush) or on it like a normal wall?

MDF is more rigid and you can get a really nice paint finish on it once smooth (plus I did alot of research on it on AVForums and it's recomended to use MDF)
The wall bracket is flush and the tv sits out, flushing TVs in is not recomended due to the heat they give of, plus if I change the tv then I'd have to redo all the front!

Why have you gone through all that trouble to hide the wires, make the TV sit on the wall perfectly flush, etc and then left the double socket in view?

Theres a double socket at each end of the room, the socket for the TV and other stuff is behind the wall.
The lead thats plugged in showing just powers the lights for now as i keep taking them off while i work on it, once its finished it wont be there.
I wont be removing the double sockets at each end as you never know what I might have there in the future, lamps etc..

good point
Never would have thought MDF would have given a better surface for painting

Apparantly when sanded it's a really nice finish providing you spend the time, it's also so I get a rigid overhand as plasterboard wouldn't be as strong.

Not really done allot with the house over the last few weeks, but made a little progress this week, just wanted to wrap up the lounge a bit as we hit the DFS sale for some sofas so have upto 6 weeks to get it sorted.
Screw holes and joins filled, sanded and primered, back wall filled, sanded and basecoat on, ceiling and coving sorted, now im just stuck on which red... argh!
Looks a little better now its all one colour!
Got to sort the cables out yet, gonna use one little peice of trunking just to hide the Sky feed and telephone feed.

TV looks a bit high up. Do you not have to sit with your neck looking upwards??

no tbh we played around with it as the braket i have you can raise up / down by 3" and we found that the best height, I must admit when ive taken the pics ive got down low to try to fit it all in, when im sat on the sofa the tv is about just over mid head height

One of my friends have there TV above the ex fireplace, and to sit and watch your head needs to be arc'ed back and after a while its quite sore.

Here you go Dan, This photo is taken head height sat on the sofa.
As you say marty when sat back in a chair with you body angled back its perfect for me, dont have to move my eyes or anything!
I have used 18mm MDF so its quite thick and i have filled the centre so theres no echos at all! the speakers on the TV are hidden around the sides so it fires off the MDF really nicely!
Cosmo the TV stand is from Ikea, but i got it 2nd hand off ebay for £15 as I wasnt sure what i wanted until the wall was built, it was just going to be temp but i do quite like it and was a bargin for 15quid as its pretty much brand new
Here it is from the Lack range.

I might get 2 of these now though so i have storage for games, dvds, controllers etc.. and id take the wheels off.

Ok painted the lounge now and replaced the sockets, Just need to touch up a few bits and wait for the sofas and bits and bobs then its pretty much done!
just to recap, lounge on move in:
and now:
(cables in the corner wont be there as moving the router and the wall lights will be on a remote)
Will probally upgrade the cabinet to a different one soon too.
