I'm sure O2 don't even use an external source for their credit check, I went and got an iPhone on Friday and they just remove £1 quid from your account to see if it's working then return it when it goes through.
I still have a '3' contract running as well, either your account doesn't accept Direct Debits or they didn't like the look on your face.

Yes they do, and I know this for a fact as I've got the searches on my Experian credit report to prove it when I applied for the contract.

They are just two different credit reference agencies which companies use to do searches on and report to. There is a third, CallCredit, but most creditors just use one or both of the first two.

Good morning Jason
Thanks for your interest in our Simplicity SIM. I'm sorry for the
inconvenience you're facing.
Jason, your order has been cancelled because of a unsuccessful credit
check. Like all service providers, we carry out a credit check on all
our potential Pay Monthly customers before entering a contract. In this
instance we contacted credit reference agency, Equifax plc.
We're not given specific details by Equifax plc as these are
confidential. For more details please call our Equifax team on 0844 335
0550. Alternatively you can get this information online at:

I would probably wait until June before applying for a contract TBH, your default is still too fresh - once it's a year old (assuming you've not had any other negatives on your credit files since May 09) you will stand a better chance of being considered.
