Puts my savings to shame but started in Jan, have £2,500 saved up but have other accounts also, money from sale of TT then GF's savings.

Aiming for £15,000 - £20,000

I save money but I'm still living life and going out and enjoying myself. I'm all for preparing yourself for the life ahead but find a limit

i used to spend shit loads on the car and other gadgets i didn't really need.

soon works out a lot once you start adding up all the takeaways and petrol etc

You must have done, else it would be in the bank?

I don't find it that difficult to save any more tbh. Used to just keep withdrawing cash every couple of days and then find it had gone. Stuff like buying lunch every day cost a fortune - £5 a day is a hundred a month and you've got nothing to show for it.

I now just think through what I'm buying - still do most of the stuff I used to entertainment wise (going out, cinema, football etc.) but just limit it to a sensible level. Thats not being boring its just facing the reality that I'd rather move out than be at home

When i was earning 17k i managed to save 6k in around 12 months. I never went out and ate beans on toast all week. Bear in mind i had my own gaff at this point as well. In which to save money again i'm going to have to do the same...

Time for a career change i'm thinking

when i got the focus i thought i had loads to spare as i'm on 34k + overtime and had hardly any outgoings.

it soon all adds up.

£414 month finance
£14 gap ins.
£185 car ins (first year)
£100 each tyre, had to buy 2 every 6k miles.
£50 petrol every week
£220 tax

and other bits and bobs. soon adds up.

you really do realise how much you're spending when you write it all down and it's rather scary indeed.

always used to have takeaways and go cinema every week etc.

When I sold my flat me & Jade managed to save £1500 a month between us to put towards the house.

Now this was more a matter of 'had to' than 'could do'.....as we had a 30k deposit to pay in 6 months time & were 8k short!!

If you stick £xxx of your salary into an account the day you get paid, you soon adjust on how to get by on what you have left!!

It also makes for great practice once the house finally comes!!

I put £500 aside the day after I get paid as you mentioned, and I never spend all my wages so put the leftovers into my account where all my bills come out of, then once I have lots in that I move some of it into my savings. Working quite well for me so far but I had a few big purchases last year so the savings took a big hit so trying to have enough 'spare' money in my bills account for those 'just incase' moments instead of going into the savings account.

I agree it's getting easier to save though, don't really have many big purchases to buy anymore just gotta pay for the upkeep on my vehicles

We were going to buy next year with £10k cash + £3k saved for fees, but we bought a new build in March because they paid stamp duty and interest free loan to up our deposit to 25% meaning we got 4.89% fixed on 2 years = £495 a month mortgage, and with a newbuild the only expenses in the first few years are painting. We are on £31k gross JOINT, not like you southerners But then we have a sensible car, dont go out much (through choice not through limitations) and already had all our furniture etc from renting non-furnished together for a year and a half

No - just people in Unions get paid ridiculous amounts of money.

Me and the Mrs joint gross income would be under danny's. We live down south...

I was on between £450 - £800 a week in the job Ive just been finished from

my outgoings are roughly

per week:
Deisel £60
Beer£90
Keep £50
Food £20

per month:
Phone £40
Gym £27

I do go on lots of holidays though and weekends away

I used to aim to save around £300 a week

have a tidy deposit for a house now, but finding it too hard to get a steady reliable and secure job thats going to last more than 6 months, just my luck Il find a propper job just as the prices shoot back up

That is exactly what I was thinking, THE FUCK?

How in the name of god? It took me and Rach a year to save 10k and we aren't on bad money.

You lot must be serious hermits, ok having will power to save money is a must but even so 38k 23k 20k etc etc over what period of time are we talking about? Since birth?
