I thought it might be hardware, there was nothing wrong with any of it, it was software fault, something to do with an update but rolling back the install didnt do anything, its been good as gold since I did a clean install.
In fact scratch that, I seem to remember it being a USB wireless adapter that went faulty and caused the problem.

I thought hardware too, clean install seems to have done the job though.
