It sounds like a fault outside tbh but could still be anything.

From my days of being a monkey at Pipex (pre-ADSL2) - Check internal wiring, change microfilter, use test socket, see if you can borrow another ADSL modem to rule out faulty modem/router (it does happen) and lastly you can do a line test by dialling 17070 (option 2 i believe) on the line.
If you don't have any luck then it's likely to be an outside fault so call sky tech support - 0844 241 1653 or local number 020 7126 7020 (from SayNoTo0870).

This was from April 1st:
quote: Sky Broadband
We are aware of a number of customers who are experiencing intermittent service issues with their Sky Broadband service. We are currently working on identifying and fixing the small number of telephone exchanges affected and we apologise to anyone experiencing connection problems.
Didn't appear to have affected my area though when I searched for affected areas by postcode.

To be honest, unless you try another modem to completely rule out a fault at your end, then i'd just call tech support as there isn't much else you can do.

Changed filter and still the same, on the router it was showing up as 2046kbps downstream and 445 upstream yet Speedtest was showing 0.10mbps which is the same as this time last week, I have an oldish netgear router knocking around, what will I have to change in router settings to get it tx/rx'ing?

Tiger- try the following.....
The free number for sky broadband is 0800 0512592
to call this from your mobile for free, call this number first and follow the prompts
02002220700
This doesnt work for 0870 or 0845 numbers though.
Let me know how you get on

I've rang Sky, they can't fully diagnose the fault without me getting a landline phone to see if i'm getting noise on the line. They suspect it could be an outside fault though on the BT line as there are no faults my side of the test point.
I'm going to borrow a landline and call them back and hopefully get this resolved and some money knocked off my bill as i'm not paying for internet I cant use for the last 2 weeks now already.

With any broadband fault you will have to either prove beyond all doubt that it's outside or be confident enough to lie to them about it, otherwise you'll get charged a call out fee.

I had this SMS today:
"Hi, we have fixed your fault without needing to access your property. Please contact Sky Broadband on 08442 411736 if the fault reoccurs."
I'm not home now til Friday to confirm its fixed though

As a recap to this, the fault continued, my internet is still crawling, I got hold of a landline phone and basically there's no ringtone on the line at all.
I called sky up again, went through a few things and they're getting BT to sort it now because as far as they are concerned its an outside line fault.
Coincidentally, when I walked down the road to where there were some guys working, about 50 feet from the house there is a new BT manhole appeared and the timescales tie up to almost the same day as my broadband went tits up.

That often happens, not just BT, Virgin as well.
Friend had the Virgin van outside in the street and suddenly their connection was really poor. Not matter what they said to the 'support' line they were being told out systems show no problem so it must be a problem your side and wanted to go through lots of diagnosis. Only after lots of hassle and time waste did they admit it was their side and connected to the work going on.

Sky are shite for Broadband, my mate signed up, kept it a few weeks and ditched them for plusnet.
Sky kept coming out with all this bullshit about the computer being the problem and to run some command so they could blame the pc.
Switched to plusnet and the speed tripled straight away and never had a problem.
now my mate is arguing with Sky about the contract he signed up for, they want him to pay for a service they failed to provide

There are a couple of technical reasons which could cause this.
If they get 6Mb with plusnet but only 1 with Sky it sounds like it's BT wholesale sky and LLU plusnet.
BT=crap.

I was happy with Sky until it went tits up, the customer service was also very good in all fairness.
I wait with baited breath for it to be resolved as my speeds were 6-7mbps (approx) before.
