thats what insurance is for, they had a leek and damaged someone elses falt.. it's their fault.
have you legal cover to check?
but they are both with the same insurance company so they can't exactly claim off themselves can they?

No, you don't ring your insurance.. Those who had the water leak ring, they put the claim in, they pay the water excess as its the leak from them.. they get your flat fixed as it's been damaged by their water leak.
Or as you have now put the claim in with your insurance, your insurance should claim the Excess back off them upstairs.. even though its same insurance company it wasn't your leak or your doing or your fault.
failing that.. threaten them upstairs with small claims court if they don't reimburse you with the water excess.

That is what they are going to do...but apparently it will only be paid back as a 'goodwill' gesture....I don't really think insurance companies have goodwill, so I'm not holding my breath!

Yep, that was the main thing that annoyed me when the roof fell down...all the original coving got damaged.
This stuff seems pretty good though...might even get some for the master bedroom since it is the only room without fancy coving

We did speak about doing that....but don't know why we didnt in the end.
More hassle finding someone to do that than just find one and buy it

the coving we went for is period correct and matches what we had pretty well.
Was a lot easier to just order it and get delivered
Any tips for neat joins in the corners? Getting the angles just right and what to cut it with?
I've put up your run of the mill wee plaster coving before where you used to get the template for outside/inside corner joins.

Mitre saw will get you perfect 90 degree corners.
Bead of caulk in the joints then wiped smooth as long as your painting over wont ever be seen.

Would you not want to get all the plastering done before putting the cornice up?

eh?
Why do you need to plaster perfectly flat plasterboard?
I really dont understand why folk do that.
Tape the joints, and fill.

It's not hard to tape, it's hard to get it perfect.

This was exactly why I said. Its easy to smooth it off, think its all good, cover all the screws with a small amount of filler and think job done. Paint it, give it a few months to settle down and then often you start to see slightly different levels, slight divots where the boards have moved etc.
Plastering it off just gives you that nice perfect consistent layer that will stay level as its able to resist minor changes in the backing without affecting the surface

Be getting tiled over anyways won't it?! If was being painted I'd 100% be skimming over the boards!
