MY current contract on Orange doesnt run out until 2 months, but can I keep running that contract and get a new contract on O2 on the iphone 4?
I think im confused!
Doyle has pre-ordered an Iphone from Apple at full price, i.e £499, he wont want to go in to o2 and start a new contract surely, he'd want PAYG, perhaps something like simplicity?

Dowle is mixing up reserving with pre-ordering.
He said hes going into the shop which means hes reserved and thus you don't pay anything and can do what ever you like when you pick it up
Pre-ordering is only available for home delivery and is the full SIM-free price.

There's some serious confusion in this thread.
As I understand it, phones on apple are full up retail sim free
o2 however aren't allowing ordering till the 24th but you can go into a store and upgrade on the day

This is not the case. You reserve a phone at the apple store to pick up and then you decide what you want to do. If you want to upgrade your existing contract they are going to help you do this or if you just want PAYG / SIM-Free sort that for you. You then pay what ever the cost is for what you are doing.
I am guessing this is a limited time offer while the phone is first released after which they will switch back to selling just sim free.
My guess is its to maximise Apples money taking as I bet if they process the order instore even on a contract upgrade they some kick back from the operator.
All the phones that are available were reserved within 12 hours of them being released.

Apple is going to contact your network and sort out your contract?

o2 prices are out now http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/tariffs.html
Phone costs are the same on 18 and 24 month tariffs, much the same as orange though as expected.

That's not refunding you the money you've paid for the handset and putting you on a contract with a subsidised handset though is it.
