No digging to be done. Apple staff have also confirmed you will be able to upgrade instore.
Give them a ring if you want.
the link does confirm what you're saying.
so in fact..... we are all ------->
O2 and Orange for PAYG
and O2, Orange and Vodafone for pay monthly.
O2 are not doing PAYG at launch so you need to get it via Apple.

But you'll have paid full price for the phone and you'll get a SIM only contract.

They are also doing upgrades in the same way they are also doing new 18/24 month contracts (non sim-only variety)

Just spoken to the Apple store I am picking up my phone from and they confirmed you are open to do what you want....
go SIM-free, pay the full amount and walk out with the phone
go PAYG and they will setup you a PAYG deal and you pay the full price again.
sign a new contract with O2 and pay what ever the charge is i.e. £279 for 32GB phone on £35/18 month contract
upgrade your existing O2 contract and again pay what ever the o2 price is.
I only asked about O2 but think its the same for Vodaphone too

It's quite a shit phone to be honest.
It's only good on paper.
As a direct comparison it's shit, and loses you all cool points with people.
Add in the fact that my mate's android phone keeps crashing and the lack of continual support for older android phones - enjoy you 18-24 months.
Everyone I know who has gone android has long term regretted it. You've just not had the phone long enough yet.

OK
p.s - A few of my friends are currently having trouble with their iPhones, with one of my mates suffering from the issue of the phone not displaying when someone is calling (down to an issue of the iPhone switching between 2G and 3G!) and another having the "white screen of death". I think both of them are on their second or third phone. And there's plenty of forums with posts by iPhone users complaining, so it's not all plain sailing!

Paul, I'm about the most uncool person ever, a phone wouldn't make me any more or less cool.
What's not cool is your total lack of knowledge on the subject, slag the phone all you want, try and find out what you're talking about first though.
I'll also have another phone in 18 months, so although there is a massive developer community that makes roms for the older phones, I'll have a new one by then anyway.

it's only banter.
Who cares which phone is better. It really doesn't matter as long as you're happy with your choice.

I was very nearly tempted.

To be honest, iPhone's are overpriced underfeatured (locked in) phones - which their owner's 'think' makes them cool.
- As long as you're content with this, you can happily be an iphone user.
Seriously though, I never thought the iphone would be as good as it was, the first one I had (now known as the shit one) just felt sooo good in everything it did. The 3gs didn't really do much more / change much of the way I used it - but I still bought one. It's going to be a similar story with the iphone 4. I can't see it being much different / better than my 3gs. The only 'quirk' for me will be the 720p video which will probably not be very smooth or good.
I just want an iphone 4 to be one of the first 'cool' group. Such a big waste of money really.
There's a few guys with androids in my office and a few of us with iphones. We all just wind each other up with banter all day long, it's funny.

on orange 24month contracts you get unlimited texts not 500, apart from on the cheapest one @ £30 p/m. so extra 5 p/m for unlimited texts is a no brainer
need to try make up my mind how much i wana spend on a silly phone tonight and wether to switch back to 02 want a 32gigger but not sure on colour yet either! arr
