Just an update, basically when I switched over from 2Mb BT to 16Mb Sky, this is what I got:
I then downloaded this program called TCP Optimizer from http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe and changed the settings from Current to Optimal (making sure I clicked backup) before saving the settings and rebooting, and this is what I get now:
My PC is running Windows 2000 Professional and using the Sky (Netgear DG834GT) broadband modem/router.

How long you had the ADSL 2+ connection for? I'd be very dubious that that program was responsible for the speed difference. Could be network traffic, your PC using bandwidth etc

We've had broadband here for over a year now, switched over from BT 2Mb to Sky 16Mb on tuesday.
Well all I know is that my Internet speeds (on Sky) are much faster now since I've used that program so it's done something to make my connection better!

Ian - what Windows version? I used that program on Win2K Pro, the other PC we have here has WinXP and that one was fine anyway.

You manage dto lose half of your upload speed between they 2 tests sam.
I would say its more than likley not the program you ran that caused the difference.

The Aberystwyth exchange is marked as red for congestion, just did the test again and got 3.5mbps so it must be a busy time. We're due for an exchange upgrade on the 24th though

I used another app to reset the settings and it was back up to 5mpbs. Not as quick as the first test, but not 3.5.

We moved into this rented house in September and the internet connection above is still working for us. People before us haven't canceled it yet. Could we get charged for it, or should we just continue downloading the entire internet?

Id just use it until it got cut off.
But if the bills are still coming to the address for the connection, you could be liable so be careful.
