adam has you car become slow since you fitted the power box or before? Things you should check for are that the induction hose is not collapsing, and that the air filter is clean, and check that there is sufficiant exhaust pressure as it may be a partialy blocked cat

the inlet has probably amplified your existing problem, if your EML is on i highly reccomend doing a paperclip test

have you got a inlet off flame off here? If so it sounds like egr fault.. Seems like it is sticking open and parshaly chocking the engine, best thing to do, is get some capped nutts and block the egr off that way

But! with the kit you get the blacking plate which the trottle body used to go onto which i have fitted. But some people take the egr valve off as well with a blanking plate which i didnt get and mine is still plugged in

Don,t worry to much about the egr, you can blank the egr with some metal/gasket etc under the base of the egr and refit the egr back on top this will stop any exhaust gases getting into the egr you will still have to keep it connected to stop the eml coming on but the egr will be doing nothing, if your egr does bring on the eml try cleaning it out with some carb cleaner or replace it.

bored of this now

i've fitted my new TPS sensor which has solved the whole going crazy above 3000rpm

but now it idles at 400rpm and occasionaly cuts out

i've tried a paperclip test but its just throwing up TPS sensor still, as the EML never comes on anymore so is still left over from that.

what could be causing this? its still pretty bad on fuel too.

have you disconnected the battery and let the ecu reset itself then started the car and let it idle for 5 mins to let it set itself up??

mate take your ecu out and check if its got water in it!
mine was doing what yours is doing and found out the ecu was dripping with water and so was the engine loom.

i havn't read this thread all the way through but im guessing you have had the bottom pulley off to check if the cut out is rounded off?
also checked the timing and tightness off the cambelt?

ive had before on my x14xe where the water pump was fooked and had been for a while by the state of it and the cambelt was going loose and jumping teeth

right i just read this whole thread, you say you do alot of petrol? i see no one has mentioned coolant temp sensor!
get a new one of these mate there only about 9 quid!
you want the ecu one ( the big blue one)
this will affect fueling! and bring on the engine light.

i had this on my c20xe was running so slow after i done the head gasket, i managed to find out in the end that one of the wires connected to the temp sensor was broken, i simply repaired the wire and it flew after that, the engine light went out, and it ticked over fine.

im sure that if the ECU doesn't get a signal from the temp sensor it goes into default mode and thinks the car is permanatly cold, so will just chuck loadsa fuel in.

well today i took my EGR valve off and cleaned it all up and found it was stuck in the closed position, fitted it back on and the idle speeds went back to normal (1100rpm warm up then 900rpm), but it was still a tad...lumpy ish

but after 10 minutes of driving it went back to fluttering between 400-700rpm, so going to blank it off i think.

also where is the coolant temp sensor on my engine?
